No disrespect to him, but should he still be fighting? Aged 44, and not won since 2003?

Still, I suppose if he wants to and is fit to fight, and promoters see fit to book him, then thats their business.

how do the bbbofc take sum boxers licenses (howard daley etc) but let johnny greaves, karl taylor etc continue to fight, ive seen taylor box b4 and he does get hit its not like he isnt taking any punishment

They usually suspend boxers if they have a couple of bad knockouts. I don't know anything about Daley to say why he was suspended/banned etc but Taylor has been around years. He does get hit, the scar tissue on his face will attest to that but he's usually got a good defence and is a good workout for up and comers, in the mould of all good journeymen.

He's been in with some decent names and while he rarely wins, he doesn't show himself up but it's clear he's happy in the role of jouneyman/SO/blue corner etc. Also, don't forget, the majority of guys he fights are novices, who've maybe had 2-3 fights at most. They may be fresher, but they certainly don't know as much as the likes of Karl.

2-101-4 since losing to Ricky Hatton in 1998.

Not good - journeymen should at least be competitive.

Hasn't fought anyone like that in years though. Same with Buckley at the end, people talk about him fighting Naz when he is losing 4-rounders to guys who have never boxed before. Taylor is 44, but looks 60.

I saw him beat Thobela in Cannock on a Duff/Hearn show. It was a genuine win. Taylor hustled and bustled and Thobela couldn't do a thing with him. "I can retire now," Nobby Nobbs cracked at ringside. Thobela later walked out of the venue carrying his own bucket. Nobody could have forseen him coming back to win the world super-middleweight title.

Yeah, he had that draw with Ayers too, which resulted in a rematch for the british title. Reminds me of that Booth win over Sheika (which I saw live)..bit of an upset night that with Keeton bashing Kelly Oliver and Howard Clarke beating Jason Papillion.

Agree that he's way beyond fighting guys like that these days and looks ancient but at one point he wasn't as bad as people make out and perhaps like most journeymen, had a tipping point with losses that it's impossible to come back from.

It's always interested me, the mental make-up of journeymen. At what point in their career do they decide not to bother? Do they sign up with Nobbs at that point?

Paul Wesley was another, at one point he had a few losses but had more wins than losses and a couple of decent wins, but just slipped into "can't be arsed" mode and would be out drinking and taking training lightly and taking fights at less than 24 hours notice (remember one where he took the call while under a car in his overalls for that night?).
