funny. the other day i wanted to start a thread of him being
underrated because his late fights overshadowed his great
achievements.

I'm not a fan, but I tend to agree with you. The whole pretty boy stuff has turned off a lot of the hard core fans. But he was a very good, if not great, fighter. He will deserve his first year HOF induction.

Is this really Granberry? I don't remember the original caring about DLH one way or another...

im pretty certain its not the real Granberry. this is just a bad copy. Granberry always gave reasons for his opinions. And have Granberryreturns yet posted a orange juice story?

Exactly, just the fact that he won titles across divisions like he did is impressive. From 130-140 he was an efficient destroyer, and he had two of his biggest wins against two of his most dangerous opponents in Vargas and Mayorga.

Mayprga wasn't a real threat to a good boxer with decent power. The entire build up was pure 'Good Guy v Bad Guy' - plain silly and it was an easy De la Hoya comeback bout. De la Hoya beat some excellent champions early on but always had the dice loaded in his favour, at least a little.

Untrue. Mayorga kicked Forrest's ass and gave Trinidad some problems not long before he fought Oscar, and he also gave Mosley a tough fight not long before Shane completely demolished Margarito.

Mayorga gave Tito some problems? maybe I am remembering the wrong fight here, but the only problems i can recall him giving Trinidad would be the potential for breaking his hands on Mayorga's chin.

It was a good fight while it lasted. DLH blew Mayorga out, Ricardo hung out fairly well and landed some good shots against Tito.

Aside from that though he was a legit champ when Oscar went after him, he got robbed against Cory Spinks in a horrendous fight and then after the Trinidad loss busted up Piccirillo for 12.

Tito gave Mayorga one of the worst thrashings in ring history. It was fun, but far from competitive.

Yep overrated like crazy.

BIGGEST WINS:
old Chavez.
old and overrated Camacho: already lost to Chavez and Tito
old Whitaker: some thought De La Hoya lost the fight
Carr: Tito already ko'd him, Quartey beat him, and who did he ever beat anyway?.
Quartey: Quartey won that fight! he wasnt robbed but he did win.
Campas: BUM! lost to all the elite and a bunch of bums.
Vargas: huge waste of space, like Oscar lost all his big fights. Only big win was against Quartey and who did he ever beat?
Mayorga: everybody and their mother knocked him out.
Sterm: Yet another fight Oscar should of lost.
LOSSES:
Mosley twice: Shane won the first hands down, the 2nd fight was close but Shane won because he fought like a champion not a contender.
Trinidad: De La Hoya statistically should have won but he fought like a contender and not a champion.
Hopkins: knocked out by the weakest punch ever thrown. WHAT A CHUMP!
Mayweather: started off good but did his usual slow paced bullsh!t, he through some of the gayest and weakest combos i have ever seen. Niether fighter hurt the other but Floyd landed the better shots.
Pacquiao: Figured he could beat a smaller fighter and ended up getting his anus hole ripped open!

Trinidad: De La Hoya statistically shuold have won but he fought like a bum.
Hopkins: knocked out by the weakest punch ever thrown. WHAT A CHUMP!
Mayweather: started off good but did his usually slow paced garbage.
Pacquiao: knocked out by a midgit!
Drivel. "The second fight Shane won because he didn't fight like a wimp..."

What a waste of bandwidth. Your entire post amounts to complete bullsh!t.

Are you kidding me ? :shame: Oscar is and always will be an all time great, and apart from winning olympic gold and being a six weight world champion, he would fight anyone ! he was p4p king for years and made more money from fighting alone then tyson, mayweather and hopkins all put together (approx $900M ). so to answer your question YES his more than just a pretty boy, his also a scratch golfer !!!

making a lot of money has nothing to do with being a great fighter neither does him not being afraid to fight anyone. he fought a lot of the best that's true but which one of those fighters did he beat? greatness is not determined based on how much money u make or who u fight...its who u BEAT that matters.
