Georges Carpentier v Young Snowball

Post by lamphey »

Can somebody put Carpentier’s defeat to Young Snowball (09 April 1910) to it’s correct result.

http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=010604

Carpentier lost in the 4th (fourth) round NOT the 14th (fourteenth) round.

The comments below the bout are from a Ted Broadribb (aka Young Snowball) article in the 20 July 1912 issue of Boxing. The article does say Snowball won in the 14th (fourteenth) round but this is clearly an error by the individual who typed it up.

This is a well-known fight in the annals of British Boxing as it was the only time that Carpentier lost to a Brit.

I can give three fairly authoritative references for this fight just by stretching over to my bookshelf:

1) The report of the fight in the 16 April 1910 issue of Boxing has it as a fourth round stoppage.

2) Ted Broadribb/Young Snowball’s autobiography has the fight as a fourth round stoppage.

3) Georges Carpentier’s 1920 autobiography not only has the fight as a fourth round stoppage but he even gives a quite detailed round-by-round account of the ass whipping he received.

The original Editor had entered this as a TKO-4, but some new Editor changed it April 2 to TKO-14. He's got some 'splaining to do.

It still says TKO 14

It should be TKO 4 (four)

The Tommy Farr and Tommy Green fights should be moved to another Young Snowball. Broadribb did not fight in the 20's.
