Looked like a guy I know that had anemia. He was eating plenty of iron rich food, but couldn't ingest it properly and had a disorder called celiac disease. It was wheat products that was inflaming him and stopping him ingesting iron and other nutrients. He started with it after taking up running, as he started putting his body through it's paces, doing longer runs, he suddenly found himself not being able to do the smaller runs he originally did easily.
Either something like the above, or over-training. Hammer yourself in camp and then you'll flood with cortisol and be in poop street get you really need your reserves.
I have been one of Jaffa's biggest critics - wrongly so on occasions and I am thinking like yourself something is amiss medically with the lad.
Jaffa is a better boxer than what he has displayed and I stated in a previous post about Clinton Woods and his diet and I believe at one point something was wrong with his blood or something like that.
Jaffa should seek specialist help here - he will do okay for himself as long as he listens!!! - the trainer Bobby Rimmer has also got to get his finger out and have a good heart to heart with Jaffa or dare I say it go their seperate ways - its time the trainer was completely in charge not the fighter.
Come on Jaffa - get your finger out - you will do okay lad.
Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
I agree with all of this - I want Jefferies to come good, but something is definitely badly wrong. In many respects what worried me the most was, to put it bluntly, the way he didn't seem to "like it up him" i.e. in the face of adversity, Jefferies seemed ready to crumble rather than bite down on the gumshield and go the proverbial extra mile to grit out the win.righthook wrote:i want to start by saying i have nothing against the lad, but oh my god.
he stunk. its that simple. his last few fights he has looked bellow average, and last night topped it off for me.
if that fight would have went another round or two then he would have been stoped.
there is no excuse what so ever for a boxer saying after 6 rounds am too tired, his corner had to nearly drag him out.
can some1 please tell me how a boxer who as been a pro as long as jaffa can be so tired after a few rounds? he could barley keep his hands up after5-6 rounds.
he made a very poor excuse in the interview saying he hurt his arm a week before the fight. even if he did, that shouldnt have you blowing after 4 rounds, the hard work has been done in the first few weeks of training and in the last week even if he couldnty train as hard as the other weeks you dont lose fitness that quick. and its also funny the way in the first few rounds we didnt see no problem with his arm. there is deffo something wrong with him, iv never realy rated him at all, but on his last few performances he looks like he wont even get near a title in his life.
hopefully he can prove me wrong, but on what iv seen i doubt that very much
I like the guy from what I've seen and read so I really hope he can get it together, but he needs to make dramatic, fundamental changes in the wake of this debacle.

Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
Jeffries lost that IMO. Bad night for north east boxing as jon Dickinson lost too.
Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
Dickenson KO'd by a journyman.
Jeffries lost rounds 4/5/6/7/8. He lost that fight on my scorecard and then gave pathetic excuses afterwards. He showed very bad mental strength "im f*cked" and was looking for a way out. His technique is awful. His reaching jab is just begging to be countered by a power right hand. His right hand is a lunging punch devoid of any real technique. I think he did well in the amatuers by simply throwing lots of punches over the 4 two minute rounds.

Is the North East really Britains boxing capital!!leforge wrote:Jeffries lost that IMO. Bad night for north east boxing as jon Dickinson lost too.
Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
Was he? I made rare foray onto ESB as I'd seen Dickenson's result when I looked at the whole card on Boxrec, but over there they were saying it was a swelling and an immediate rematch is on the cards.markp wrote:Dickenson KO'd by a journyman.
Did anyone see that and his brother's fight? The latter looked like a routine points win and surely it's time for him to step up now?

Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
A really poor show from Jeffries last night.
I agree with those who say something doesn't look quite right with him, who knows what's happening behind the scenes it could be one of many things. I would get things checked out health wise just to make sure but in all likelihood it looks to me more of a temperament issue.
I do personally agree though with people saying he doesn't have great technique, he is still VERY raw and amateury and I just hope he hasn't let the 'fame' get to his head and make him stop working as hard on his game and all round fitness.
The one thing that worried me the MOST was the mental side of things, the guy basically unravelled in front of everybody's eyes, when the going got tough in the 7th and 8th rounds he didn't want to know and it got to the point where I thought he might end up getting stopped. The corner were talking to him and he just seemed to be zoned out, like his mind was completely elsewhere, like he was having some sort of tantrum because he didn't think it was 8 rounds.
His corner were being all nicey nicey, Frank Maloney was too after the fight making excuses, I think we have a problem here with the fighter thinking he is better than he is and above his team, he needs to take a long hard look in the mirror and maybe someone needs to give him a bit of a rollocking.
That mental unravelling and attitude when the chips were down do not mark him out for me as having the right character for the pro game, he has a LOT to prove now after last night if he's gona even get to British title level.

I would really like to see Jaffa make it - but I think your last 2 para's sum it pretty good - boxing needs as many well supported fighters as it can get throughout the country.TheCobra wrote:His corner were being all nicey nicey, Frank Maloney was too after the fight making excuses, I think we have a problem here with the fighter thinking he is better than he is and above his team, he needs to take a long hard look in the mirror and maybe someone needs to give him a bit of a rollocking.

However if you do a search on previous threads concerning Jaffa - I was slagged by him, and his supporters and many posters on here for stating what is coming out on this thread now - if people doubt it - just do that search!!!

Spud, you are not the only one who criticised him and you weren't the first either. You know some boxing people will read this so you are trying to appear as the one at the forefront of the criticism. It was widely done way before you were doing it

Rematch arranged for September at the same venue (Booth-Molitor card). Swelling was a blood vessel and the left eye was closed. Ref stopped the fight as Dickinson was unable to see properly. His brothers win over Ambler was trouble free.
Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
Jon Lewis was stopped as he had an awful swelling under his left eye.
Was ringside and it was a terrible swelling - he was caught by right hands a little but essentially was in control and floored Wright in the 2nd.
Re-match in September - if as expected he wins then this limits the damage done really.
Travis won comfortably against an awkward fighter in Ambler - agree, time to step up a little.
No disaster though boys

Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
it doesent get much better from jaffa.
Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
Jefferies was poor last night. He should rematch banbula in september. I think he lose next time.
Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
Read his Twitter he's blaming sky and maloney. The guy a bit deluded it was him who was crap last night. I hope sky see this and don't show his next fight there better fighters who are not being shown.
Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
When they, the Olympians turned Pro I thought, Gavins and Jeffries were the ones that would make it. Theres something wrong somewhere
Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
that most certainly was a shocker last night.
I never saw him once put any combination together.

Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
alot of people are banging on about a fighter saying im fucked.i can guarantee 99% of pro's have said that in there career :!:
Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
It's not even what he said, it was his body language and tone - I've rarely seen that in a similar scenario - it wasn't exactly a Benn-McClennan war was it?hurlock wrote:alot of people are banging on about a fighter saying im fucked.i can guarantee 99% of pro's have said that in there career :!:
Re: Tony "Jaffa" Jeffries
I know it's our job to criticise and so on, but i genuinely believe Tony and his team thought it was a six rounder. He went to get his hand raised by the ref at the end of the 6th round.
He looked rusty as hell and his timing was poor, but he was winning on workrate for the first 6 rounds and pressing the action. If you've not had much in the way of sparring/prep your going to be 'off' if you had a twinged bicep.
I think he poured it out in the 6th and left himself dead on his feet after replaying the fight. His opponentn did very little for the majority of the first few rounds and finished with plenty of zest.
Witter had 2 draws in his first 8 fights and won a clutch of belts. Tony will come back from this and hopefully make us eat our words on the 11th.
If he looks poor again, without genuine excuses, then fair enough the stick will be justified. But for now i think we should take on board what he's stated.
