De la Hoya
Forrest
Mayorga
Mosely
Quartey
Trinidad
Vargas
Wright

1. De La Hoya
2. Mosley
3. Wright
4. Trinidad
5. Vargas
6. Quartey
7. Forrest
8. Mayorga
This was done using a combination of head-to-head, career achievements, & who would do best against rivals down through history.

1) De La Hoya
2) Mosley
3) Wright (although since he was primarily a junior middle-middle and never fought at 147 I feel he's out of place here)
4) Forrest
5) Trinidad
6) Vargas
7) Quartey

It's funny because some of the fighters on the lower part of the list beat fighters higher on the list but the overall body of work leaves them short.

I'm saying:
Oscar De La Hoya
Felix "Tito" Trinidad
Winky Wright
Shane Mosley
Ricardo Mayorga
Vernon Forrest
Fernando Vargas
Ike Quartey

6. Mayorga

If it were head to head I would pick Wright to beat all of these.

Re: Rate These Eight
Tough combination to consider. If you were going on pure talent I would have to give the late Mr. Forrest a much higher spot. I thought he had all the talent in the world when at his best.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Tough list. I'll give it a bash...

Anyways, my list:
De La Hoya (annoyed for having to give him number 1 anything)
Trinidad
Mosley
Wright
Forrest
Quartey
Vargas
Mayorga
I still don't know how Mayorga beat Forrest twice. Just baffling.

Agree with this list except Mosley higher than Tito, just.jrc26 wrote:Tough combination to consider. If you were going on pure talent I would have to give the late Mr. Forrest a much higher spot. This may take a while.I would then ask you to define win.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Winning a fight against another man.Grimm wrote:Define beat.Goodnight, Irene wrote: Uhhh, Vargas did beat Wright
Point is he won the decision but didn't beat Vargas.
Like others on the list . DLH should have a win over Mosley and Trinidad,Quartey should have a win over DLH and Forrest.

Re: Rate These Eight
That fight could have went either way. Vargas closed strong, I either had it a draw or vargas by a point. That was one of those fights where a guy comes out of nowhere and fights a great fight when he was supposed to get crushed. It's human nature to side with huge underdogs. Often fights like that turn into "robberies".

I agree that some rounds were hard to score but I had Wright winning .SaadOffTheDeck wrote:That fight could have went either way. Vargas closed strong, I either had it a draw or vargas by a point. How did you score Quartey Forrest though?
That IMO is an outright robbery.

Re: Rate These Eight
Based on achievement, I'll go:
1. De La Hoya
2. Mosley
3. Trinidad
4. Wright
5. Vargas
6. Mayorga
7. Forrest
8. Quartey
When it comes to other factors, it gets a little more dicey, especially considering some of these guys had different primes.

Re: Rate These Eight
I gave each fighter 8 points for a first place vote, 7 for 2nd etc.
Here are the results:
1. De La Hoya 86
2. Mosely 74
3. Trinidad 64
4. Wright 59
5. Forrest 34
6. Vargas 31
7. Quartey 28
8. Mayorga 20
I also added up their win-loss records in fights against each other:
Wright 3-1
Trinidad 3-1
Forrest 3-2
Mosley 5-4
De la Hoya 3-3
Mayorga 3-3
Vargas 2-5
Quartey 0-3
I still think they were rated pretty good when you consider what these guys did in fights against other fighters. For example, Mayorga did very little note worthy and De la hoya and Mosely had some other key wins.
Quartey's record is probably the most decieving. The De la Hoya decision could have gone other way and the Forrest decision certainly should have gone his way.
Still, a lot to chew on. No one was really dominaint.

Re: Rate These Eight
My ratings were based on what I considered the effectiveness of each fighter...more on potential than on actual achievements. Thus the unusually high rating for Quartey whom I considered to be better than his record might indicate.
