Could Ricky Hatton make a return next year?

He looks retired to me. What do you think? As I say, Ricky has always been very concerned with his public profile. That (and a shed load of money) could still persuade him to have a farewell shindig.

I'm not sure if he will return to competition, but honestly, I would not have a problem with him coming back against a relatively soft opponent, simply to go out with a win. Suffering a highlight knockout defeat is not the way to end a such a good career. If he is serious about fighting top opponents and making another run for the top, then I would not be supportive of his decision to return.

I was actually thinking to myself during Matthew's recent bout, that Nuzhenko, if he was to win, would have been a good opponent for Ricky.

Like Naseem Hamed, there will be mumblings of a Ricky Hatton ring return for the next few years. Again, like Hamed, it will almost certainly fail to come to bear.

I think the fact that it was only back in January that he announced his intentions to return, with quite a grand press conference, suggest he has a bit of a battle in his head with what to do.

Part of him does clearly, the other part says that he cannot.

I think he CAN come back, might not be the force he was but I am sure if 100% focused and with the desire of old he could reclaim a version of the world title....... I would still "mark out" (to use an American term) at the prospect of Khan vs Hatton.... something I still see as relatively 50:50 if a 33 year old Hatton does the weight well and has the old fire.

However, if I was a betting man, then I think the fact that back in January he announced his return and he is still, some 8 months after, a pie boy, suggests that the hunger for the fight game (well more the training) just isn't there.

I only hope we don't see a half hearted return up at Light Middle or Middle or something like that. I'd hate to see what happened to Michael Brodie happen to Ricky. Incidiently, has Brodie re-retired.

It was hardly grand, sitting with Nigel from Hatton TV and recording a short interview.
I think because it was such a spur of the moment thing and not a press conference it wasn't throughly thought through.

He needs to stay retired. He was such a nice bloke when I was growing up, not saying he's not a nice chap now -but I don't think the fame has done him any favours on a personable level.

He used to be at loads of my fights and he'd always cheer me on amateur and pro- we had quite a few really good chats, then I helped kev maree with a dinner show featuring him last year and he barely recognised me. Hardly spoke. Seemed a bit moody and pissed off with it all. I thought that was sad.

The guy needs to chill out enjoy his money, he's got a nice missus and kid- no need to put your life on the line whehn you have all these luxuries.

There is only one way to change that and its something he can't do......beat pacquioa

Just as roy jones will have target and Johnson on his mind for ever, ricky will have pacquioa on his mind forever, because of the manner of that defeat and Sadly for ricky, he will be remembered for that one loss more than his other fights, because it was one of the most savage knock outs seen at that level of the sport. Quite similar to tommy hearns, no one remembers him knocking out roberto duran, they all remember him pole axed on the canvas after his savage beating at the hands of marvin hagler.

Heron graham is another example, everyone thinks of the Julian Jackson fight.....

So ricky isn't in two minds about whether to fight or not, he hasn't come back because he knows a win over a nobody or even gaining a minor world title won't wipe away the pacquioa defeat. Thats ricky's problem, if he had just lost then he would have retired by now, but it was the manner of his defeat that eats away at him everyday.

I couldn't disagree more. That was one of the best KOs you could ever wish to see, against a guy with a chin like granite. Nobody that saw that KO will ever forget it.

I think he should go in against someone that he will DEFINATELY beat..Just one more fight and a win and he can retire on a high note. i could never retire after a defeat like the one he had against Pac-man. If Hatton comes back then he will get spanked, unless he fights a no-one, which he won't be able to do with it probably being at the MEN and on PPV. I heard Katsidis' name being mentioned a few months ago, and even though he's smaller, he would hurt Hatton, as would Khan, Bradley, ect, ect.

That was painful, the bag hit him in the head too.

He said he was back in training but given how tight his jogging bottoms were, it was clear he wasn't doing any training at all and it was just him not being able to draw a line under his retirement.

I'm assuming his comeback, if it happens, will be "for the fans"?

I think if he does come back and he ends up fighting khan then there will be nobody to blame but him self if he ends up with brain damage!I know thats a very harsh statement but if he was to come back i only think he would be doing it because he knows a fight against khan would be massive and make him another huge payday.Greed is not a good thing especially when you're already very well off like hatton is now.
