Mikhail Banbula

Post by dondada »

Just to switch the focus from a seedless Jaffa for a minute, I've said a couple of times recently that Banbula is a lot better than his record. I'm not saying he's the second coming, of course, but he's very much a confidence fighter.

When I did this report:

http://news.boxrec.com/news/2010/banbula-baffles-binman

His trainer dropped me a line thanking me for the positivity - he'd never had any before.

I also said in the build up he'd be plenty of trouble for Jeffries. Criticise Jeffries, but also give credit to a hard working pro (awkward though he is) for getting a great result on turf where it's notoriously difficult for away fighters. :TU:

Good point and the belief thing was evident, I think he could have got Jeffries out of there in the last but it was not until the final minute he seemed to realise that and what with the break it worked against him, if someone can get his belief up he will be a hard nights work for most on the british scene.

To be fair I think he was very curious for the first few rounds and then as soon as he seen that cut he started to look for some shots, He is most definitly a confidence fighter, I think he deserves some credit to be fair. I think Tony underestimated him and also went in there injured.. Banbula has a good chin too!! Be interesting to see where he goes from here.. I think Tony will really learn from this!! I always say this when it comes to Jaffa, He never spent 1 day with any pro's before he went pro and it's been a hard transition for him, He needs the right fights at the right times and Im sure he can make an impact on the pro scene.. :TU:

A little mate, I alwaya studied the pro's though.. I always made sure that I had some decent sparring with a pro at least once a month too.. :TU:

Definitely going to be a rematch in my view - after Jaffa and his team have done some serious talking and a rethink on who is in charge.

Banbula would have won that fight if he got his finger out of his arse in the 1st 4 rounds!!!

Glad to see Mikhail finally getting some plaudits.

I've seen him box and met him a couple of times and have to say he's one of the nicest men I've ever come across in this game. Polite, humble - and honest.

If motivation/belief has been a problem in the past then maybe recent events will prove to be a turning point for him, I hope so.

Yep congrats to banbula who I thought did really well, he started slowly, probably a bit wary of Jeffries as anyone would be. But once he got going I thought he boxed a really clever fight and for me nicked the fight. I just had a look through his record and he does seem to have improved his record gradually after a horror start, maybe he can get some decent fights and become a bit more than just a journeyman, e.g. maybe an english title belt or something.

Full credit to Banbula, he was hungry and his career is definately heading in the right direction. Nice to see an away fighter have a real go.

i doubt jeffries will fancy a rematch - i thought it was a draw and a fair one at that and i'm not sure how Jaffa will improve next time but ireckon that Banbula will come on leaps and bounds for the confidence gained by this result

Yeah good thread, Banbula deserves credit. His performance should get him plenty more work over here

X2. Good post Ian.

I thought Banbula was a unlucky. Jeffries was on the verge of being stopped in the last round and the referee badly handled the gumshield being replaced. That may have cost Banbula the win.

i said a few weeks ago this would be a tough fight for jeffries the guy banbula is a good fighter if there is a rematch i fancy him to win it nothing against jeffries but the result is just what banbula needed a bit of self belief i really think he will go on from this and maybe take the game a bit more serious and rattle a few more cages :TU:
