if Lee was promoted by a certain top British promoter, and had taken this fight, he would be drowned in criticism on here.
Like Barker was "drowned in criticism on here" for fighting Belgacham for the EUROPEAN title immediately after Lee had battered him around the ring for over 9 rounds!

umm, not sure what you mean. what i was saying, in reply to kelly iomplying that british fans don't criticise british boxers, is that a fighter promoted by mr FW, who took on a fighter like Cook, would be drowned in criticism.

what i was doing there was trying to provide a counterpoint- point A british fans don't criticise british fighters and their matches, counterpoint B yes they do you should know yourself the matches of mr FW- the ones for the commonwealth that kelly alluded to earlier were a good example- get criticised all the time.

so to sum up british fighters do get criticised for their matchmaking. hope that's clear for you. :TU:

Why not watch the whole fight? Why leave out the 9 rounds where Lee is schooling Belgecham?

Someone said earlier Lee's criticism has nothing to do with where he is from. Well with comments like that, it's not unreasonable for people to assume his over-the-top criticism of Lee stems from an agenda regarding his nationality.

Anyway, it's a terrible opponent. Not going to deny that. Someone said they'd rather he just didn't fight anyone if he couldn't get decent opponent. I say that's a retarded attitude. Staying busy, even against a crap opponent is better than doing nothing. It keeps the boxer motivated, adds another win to the resume and keeps his name out there. This fight will be televised in the US which is good exposure. How the fornicate is that worse than staying inactive?

I also agree its a shit non learning fight for lee but its not about learning it about getting noticed in the USA again on ESPN in front of milllions. Its not a waste of time if you look at it the right way. Great exposure for him.

I would be very surprised if Cook is still the opponent by Friday.

It'd be far more refreshing for one to say 'No excuses, it's an appalling waste of time. Lee should really forget about this as it tarnishes him, fighting all these no-marks'.

How on earth this fight will better Lee in any way cannot be fathomed. I'm positive the payday would be crumbs so that holds no credance either.
This fight is a waste of time. That comes from me AN ANDY LEE FAN FROM LIMERICK!
Ferg if you think that this fight, which is televised coast to coast across the US, is a waste of time then a fear to think what your opinion is of all the fights hes had in Ireland. This will do more for him in terms of profile then all of them put together. I remember the same things being said on here when Lee was lined up to fight Belgacham but after he went on the maul Barker everyone made out like he was some sort of canny gatekeeper - boring, ignorant, biased, lemming, trolls!

No one is saying that Cook is a Macklin, Gevor or even a Barker but he is no worse than most of Barkers last five opponents.
Belgecham was ahead on Andy on the Boxrec rankings when they fought so in terms of ranking it was a decent fight.. Andy should be trying to get somebody at least high up the rankings, I can't even find this Cook lad on the Boxrec Rankings.
I know Peters was trying to get Gevor for Andy's last fight but we settled for Thiam. Brian Peters tried getting Barker in Limerick for the Autumn, that fell through. Just get somebody decent that's all I'm saying. Don't settle for two bums in a row.
As for Television coverage people aren't going to pay much attention when he's fighting a nobody. Get somebody decent in and people will take notice.
As a Limerick city reared lad nobody would be happier than me Andy doing well :D

I am under no illusion that this could be Thiam MkII but look at the wider picture. The last time Lee was on US TV he was beaten by Vera - this is a chance for him to put in a winning performance. It is worth 20 similar performances in Ireland - why do you think Duddy wont fight over here anymore.

Dioufy wrote:Any negative comment aimed towards an Irish fighter on here, whether justified or not, is jumped on by the Irish. In this case, Lee deserves all he gets. It's a nothing fight and it should be portrayed like that.
If someone wrote like Bennie did about any British fighter(other than Hatton or Anthony Small) he'd have been jumped on by fans aswell.......although it probably would of been different fans.

Listen if he just berated the fight then that's fair enough, but you can't just use exaggerated criticism in describing a large part of someone's career just because you don't like their next fight. I mean if Haye signed to fight Audley Harrison now it wouldn't be fair to go and say he looked terrible against John Ruiz and was lucky to come away with a stoppage win, that just wouldn't be true.

I can't believe other people are saying it would be better not to fight at all either. Getting to stay sharp is a real positive for Lee as he often has a long waiting time between two fights. But the main point of this fight is the coverage on ESPN. American fans have forgotten who Andy Lee is, and Andy is trying to rebuild himself in America. So a fight which can be seen all over the whole country(and in countries outside it such as the UK) will be a real boost to Lee in terms of re-establishing himself as a name over here. It's likely Lee won't be out for long after this fight, and should have a much better opponent and hopefully another tv date next time out.

As for Cook not being ranked on boxrec, that's because he's been inactive more than 12 months. All fighters who haven't fought in the last twelve months aren't ranked.

Couldnt it? What about someone with a losing record? Coming off a string of losses? With no bang?

Give it a rest ya troll. You've been caught out chatting shíte about fights you obviously havent seen and if you have seen them then you are purely a clown! Jog on.

When Macklin is finished with Barker, we'll send Lee in to pick off his bones - makes a change from Barker following other fighters round like a pen'n'ink!

I'm actually Irish myself but some of us can laugh at ourselves; however, Lee-Cook is not so funny and anyone defending it is utterly discredited.

Totally agree with Bennie. A writer should be impartial. Slap is very much pro-irish and i've personally never seen him pick against an irish fighter or criticise an irish fighter. The funny thing is that he tries to appear like he isn't biased.

Have a look at the recent Andy Murray thread, he picks John Murray over Andy so that's your argument finished already. Now stop baiting, you are starting to remind me more of Lirva with every post, apologies if you ain't by the way.
