Team Welliver Calls Tuaman Tua To The Crossroads!

Post by Kronkpride »

If you missed it, Chauncy did a recent interview with Eastside. He wants Tua to fight him as he is the interim champion and David needs a fight with a ranked contender to bounce back from the "draw" result with Barrett. Since Welliver is a name in New Zealand and Tua/Cameron fizzeld out as Fight Of The Century.....perhaps this is the perfect fight for David Tua's next match.

Do you all think Welliver deserves another crack at a top guy? He went 9 rounds with Solis and should have been allowed to go much farther....bad stoppage. Since then, he took almost a year off, followed by 5 fights in 40 days, is 7-0 with minor titles in the WBO and WBC, and has gotten down to 248 from the 282 he fought Solis at. To me, he deserves another shot for sure.

And then....if they do square off....does Tuaman have enough left to break the iron chin of Welliver? Can he KO him without a joke stoppage like Solis got?

And I made a video to hype the fight.....join Team Welliver.....David Tua Is Next!

Someone from another forum raised the issue of NZ heavyweight prospects and how their is so few right now. NZ boxing will suffer from this fight as another kiwi will wipe out another kiwi.

Tua's done reasonably well for himself in boxing. Why cant Welliver do the same? Why cant he get top boxers looking at him?

Geez that promotional video says it all. Shows Welliver getting a hiding from 'a no marks on his face' Solis and David knocking some good boxers out.

Here is the interview he did. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=24471&more=1

Chauncy also racked up another win last night over a contender fighter.

Chauncy is from Spokane Washington, NZ is his 2nd home now. I do not blame him a bit either, breathtaking place to live. Tua will have the sipport of pretty much all of NZ. Tua is also badly in need of a win over a ranked contender. Chauncy is also WBO Top 10. And he holds the interim WBO Asia Pacific Belt. Tua is the Champion of that belt. It is a title defense that Chauncy has earned in the ring. To me, it makes a lot of sense now that Tua has had a set back.

Do others think Welliver vs Tua would be bad for NZ boxing? I think it would be a very entertaining fight. Fireworks like crazy. And the great thing is.....the winner is right on track for a title shot or a final eliminator. Right now, both guys need a signature win to get closer to the summit.

Nobody else will fight the brothers. Chauncy got stopped still on his feet and while throwing a punch. Later that night Peter frigging quits on his stool while behind in the 9th. And he is back in line after beating basicly nobody. Let the NZ boys square off and push a guy to the top who actually wants to fight to the finish.

Contender for what? Joell Godfrey is a cruiserweight who had lost his previous three fights.

Godfrey was part of The Contender CW TV series. Another decent test for Chauncy. And another 12 rounds under his belt.

How about Welliver defending 2 different belts back and forth between the US and NZ? Moving up those HW Rankings! :box:

Same deal on the Eastside news comments. No respect man.

He's 27 years old....50+ fights......has never been on the canvas once. The list of the guys he has sparred with is amazing. More than makes up for the experience that boxrec fails to show on his record. You only see so much on the internet. People chime in that he has not been in with anybody.....he's been in with the very best.....and hundreds and hundreds of rounds against the best. Even at 282 pounds, the Olympic Gold Medalist barely dented him in the 9th round once....and he recovered almost instantly before the ref jumped the gun and stopped it. Solis won and was way out ahead but he never outclassed Chauncy...never dominated him. Only thing I wish is that Chauncy had been 246 for Solis. A bit quicker both hands and feet. He could have tested Solis much more than he did. That was not the best Welliver.

Against Tua....I personally think Chauncy can beat him. I think he can evade his hooks and counter when he wants, get away when he wants. I think he can go in and out and land at will coming in. I think he piles more points up over 12 rounds. Tua will land some bombs here and there and the crowd will go wild...Chauncy may even wobble once, but he will not go down and he will land the combos necessary to win the fight. He is quicker than you think...at 282 he was still able to come in on Solis and shoe shine him down stairs and get right out. And he mixes head / body well when he lets his hands go. He may not be cracking like a mule but he scores his shots. He is also a good wrestler type on the inside. He is hard to hook clean.

But if Tua beat him, I would be impressed, extremely impressed if he achieved a stoppage. Going 12 rounds and decisioning Chauncy is a good win for anybody. It's a very good win for Tua in the WBO and the world title picture. It eliminates a top 10 guy in Chauncy and puts him on solid WBO ground. It's like the Barrett draw never happened. An eliminator or voluntary away from Wladimir.

No bad blood. just a win win situation for everyone. Winner of that fight is a serious force in the WBO despite the draw and Chauncy's lack of high powered wins to this point. I'm sure the winner will be supported by the other going forward.
