Hypothetical match-up: Jeff Lacy vs Bernard Hopkins

Post by big train express »

the one youve all been waiting for. who takes it? prime vs prime.

classic bout between speed, power, and accuracy vs crafty, intelligent boxing ability.

call it what you want, but you and i both agree that jeff lacy struggles with fighters quick on their feet and good hand speed. hopkins has neither. weve never seen lacy with a technician like hopkins, but at the same time we havent seen hopkins with a young, heavy handed smw.

imo this would have been a potential upset.

Hopkins has more speed than Lacy and has very good footwork. BHOP is in a completely different league and would easily outclass Lacy en route to winning every minute of the fight.

Hopkins would have dominated Lacy. I don`t think Lacy`s strengths would have made an impact on Hopkins. Seeing as Hopkins is an excellent defensive fighter. He would have won the same way he always wins.

Hopkins' handspeed is in another league to Lacy. And Bernard can box . . Lacy can't. End of story.

This is not even a contest. Hopkins something like 120-108. Lacy's power tends to be over-rated, not that it would have made any difference anyway.

Not to mention that if one was comparing the MW Hopkins to the SMW Lacy, it's a somewhat skewed argument, because had Hopkins moved up to 168 to fight Lacy, he would've been less drained and likely would've done even worse to him than he did to a drained Tarver, because Lacy was no more fluid than Tarver was that night.
