Ashley Theophane

Post by wrimc »

He flies under the radar a bit because he hasn't ever properly settled with a promoter or had a real breakout fight domestically. Does anybody think he is underrated he beat DeMarcus Corley over 10 rounds a few years ago when he was less shot than he was now. He won an eliminator for the British title but never fought for it. Lost a contentious split decision to touted prospect Danny Garcia away in Texas.

With a proper promoter backing him and a string of fights in either the UK or US to build his name could he be worked up into fringe world contention? Corley is fighting Maidana so its not entirely unlikely he could be up there if he had a proper backing

He fights IBF no.3 Delvin Rodrigues tomorrow in Oklahoma at welter. If he wins that he would soon be in line for a world title shot. You can watch the fight delayed on saturday, ESPN.

Fair play to Ashley he's getting some fights in US, If he had a bit more power in his punches i'd really fancy his chances against Rodriguez, but i think the american might just sneak past him.

He has the type of style that frustrates and divides opinion i wouldnt be surprised at a split decision like the Garcia fight

Tough fight for Theophane. Rodriguez is big and hard-hitting and can also box a bit. Theophane whips himself into great shape and throws a ton of punches but lack of power hurts him. I once saw him held to a draw by Danny Thorpe.

The Garcia fight wasn't contentious, in fact Theophane was a little lucky to get a SD from the judges.
However he did show that night what a capable fighter he is, and he may be able to do something at domestic level if he starts getting himself some(proper) fights in Britain.

He's up against it tonight against a good opponent and having to go up in weightclass aswell.
Theophane might last the distance here, and he may take a few rounds while he's at it, but he won't be coming out on the winning end tonight.
I hope he's earning good money for himself for these fights on ESPN, another good performance tonight and he'll become a respected (good quality) journeyman in the US, maybe even what you'd call a gatekeeper. He's come a long way anyway and although I'd love to see an upset, it just isn't going to happen.

His results in Britain are nowhere near as impressive as his American ones.He has been boxing journeymen over here virtually his whole career. What happened when he won his British title eliminator?
I would pick Daws,Gavin,Wright and Olusegun over him now.

A win for Ashley, although it looks like the judges liked him more than the crowd.
This should get him a world ranking though, and maybe a title shot!!

Well done to Theophane he hasproved he is world class by beating somebody who is probably top 10 in the world away from home a weight class above that which he is completely comfortable in. Good win i have to say i think people do underrate him and could have easily held the British title at somepoint as he has proven. Should be interesting to see if he can kick on from this
