khoder nasser to briggs: "if you need money just ask us"

BESIEGED boxer Paul Briggs pleaded with world champion Anthony Mundine for a one-off fight night to save him from financial ruin.
But Mundine knocked him back, fearing the out-of-condition Briggs could suffer permanent injury if the pair fought.

The offer came well before Mundine's arch enemy Danny Green set up a bout with Briggs, which led to a farcical first-round knockout in Perth last week.

Mundine's manager Khoder Nasser confirmed the approach this week, saying Mundine feared for Briggs' safety.

Nasser told Briggs: "You're going to stay in retirement.

"We'll give you money, but not to fight. If you need money just ask us."

The revelation comes as Briggs' trainer Billy Hussein and his adviser, former world champion Jeff Fenech, claimed the Green fight should never have taken place because it could have killed him.

"This is worse than what Trevor Chappell did when he threw the ball underarm down the pitch to win a cricket match," Fenech said. Briggs ignored his two confidants' advice because he was in dire financial trouble leading into the fight.

He is yet to be paid for the fight that lasted 29sec.

"Two weeks before the fight Jeff (Fenech) rang me from Las Vegas and told me to pull the kid out," Hussein said.

Briggs, however, was willing to risk long-term injury and take the bout no one thought he could win because of his money situation.

"He (Paul) is that broke he had to ask (Green) for an advance in payment," Hussein said.

"He has got no money. They gave him $20,000 just so he could pay his rent and look after his kids ... but he is still owed $180,000."

Hussein denied the stoush was rigged, as betting agencies across the country refused to take any more money on the morning of the fight, for fear of a first-round knockout.

In the lead-up to the fight, Briggs sparred up to 13 fighters in preparation for the biggest fight of his career.

Fenech revealed Briggs had been knocked out by Green five 1/2 years ago in a sparring session.

It's true about the Green/Briggs sparring session.
This is a really sad story if true.

I've found it hilarious watching recent interviews of Mundine on fox sports proclaiming how he's going to save boxing, and in true Mundine style confuses himself before the end of the interview saying it's not up to him save boxing???????????

Ryan waters vs Anthony Mundine who would of thought this could possibly happen    quality matchup this one.

All the best choc, i reckn in 2 fights time we'll see choc fighting out of Leagues clubs......

Mundine is a tight arse boxer but he is a very generous guy. He gives a lot of his money away, this wouldn't surprise me if it was true.

Anyone who knows Mundine or Khoder would tell you they are the two most generous men you'll ever get to meet. I'm not at all surprised by this actually...

Within the last five and a half years Briggs beat Drewes and lost two majority decision twelve rounders to Adamek. He could not have been that badly knocked up.

Mate i hear ya, i really would like to believe that punch hurt Briggs, but it couldn't have, he either was shot, or his situation with money was bad enough he thought dive.

Either way, that matchup will haunt both fighters, more so Briggs, his media career was built on the back of a very good boxing career where everyone here and abroad respected his warrior style, now he's the guy who got knocked out by a glancing jab.Danny has a chance to restore his name, credability and add to his legacy by fighting credabile Cruisers here and abroad.

Anyone watching the reruns of the contender on fox8?
Green can still make a bang on the Cruiser scene, i just hope he's listening to his fans and the general public.
