Theophane won a decision (95-95, 96-94, 96-94). In my opinion Rodriguez clearly won the fight and was VERY unlucky not to get the decision.

crusader, lol- I was updating as you were posting too.

From what I hear the fight was one that could have gone either way- Theoplane won some rounds easily, others were closer and could go either way- but all in all Theoplane was slightly the better over all (IE, when he definatly won rounds, he won them big.)

Rodriguez dominated the first half of the fight and should have won the first five rounds. Theophane came on strong in the final stages, but it is very hard for me to see how he won six rounds. I certainly don't think it could have gone either way. I feel as if a draw would still be generous to Theophane.

Punch stats for the fight suggest the first rounds were very even. Anyway, the judges can't be blamed for being "hometown!"

Punch stats mean nothing on their own.

That's not really true, there was only two rounds really clear for Theophane(and I gave him two close ones with that), so I had it 96-94 for Rodriguez, and tbh I can't really argue for it to be any closer. I'm delighted for Theophane and it's the type of break his career really need, he may find himself getting a voluntary title shot or an eliminator or something, however he didn't win this fight imo and Delvin Rodriguez can feel pretty unlucky with himself.

Just because they were not hometown does not mean it was a fair decision. I don't understand how Theophane won six rounds. I had it 97-93 Rodriguez. I could see it a bit close at 96-94, as BigEars has it, but I think Theophane was VERY lucky to get the decision.

But there is no reason for them to be biased, if you see what I mean. Whilst some people may disagree with the decision, the nature of the sport is that it's scored by three judges. They made their decision, without bias.

It's only unfair if their decision is influenced by the crowd, nationality of the fighter (hometown decisions, Germany, Italy etc.)

Unlucky, maybe, but not unfair.

Theoplane was well on top in the last 4 , just takes him getting given two other rounds- certainly a case for him winning the first - and one more- and thats how the decision is reached.

Did you even see the fight?

I really don't feel like debating semantics. Just because there are not hometown judges does not mean they cannot do a poor job. I thought Theophane would have been very fortunate to receive a draw, let alone get the win. I watched the fight with no sound and wasn't influenced by biased commentary or a partisan crowd, yet I do not understand how anyone could score six rounds for Theophane.

You said in a post above "from what I hear." Going by that it sounds like you did not watch the fight.

You clearly didn't see the fight as he got knocked around in the 9th and no argument can be made for him winning that round.
For what it's worth I gave him the 4th, 7th, 8th, and 10th. The 4th imo was the only round out of the first 6 that could have gone to him.
I don't see why your so adamant against this being a bad decision, when it was. I mean I wouldn't call it a robbery(as I reserve that word for fights where fighters should have won by a country mile but lost), but there's no way he should have got the decision.

If you look at the fight as a whole or round by round he lost............

Anyway once again well done to Theophane, he's not the one that scores the fight and as always he gave a good performance in there.
It's not easy going up in weight and being competitive with a fringe World Class fighter and he at the least was competitive. I'd like to see himself get a decent promoter now or else maybe get a shot at the British title down at Light-Welterweight. Him and Lenny Daws would be a very good scrap.

I mean, on balance. Over the last 4 rounds he was the dominant fighter.

I'm just saying, the nature of the sport is that it's scored by three judges, and they have no reason here to be biased, and they chose Theoplane. I don't see the need for people to question that.

It doesn't matter if they were not hometown judges, they can still do a bad job. Joe Cortez made a horrible decision to disqualify Humberto Soto against Francisco Lorenzo. Lorenzo was not the house fighter and the crowd was cheering for Soto, yet Cortez still made a horrible decision.

Going by the statements you made, I'm pretty sure you haven't actually seen the fight. You even said "from what I hear".

On Balance over the first 6 rounds Rodriguez was the dominant fighter.

So despite the decision being incorrect and wrong, you think people shouldn't question it because it wasn't a decision towards the 'home' fighter ?.
