If you read my post. I said that there is a RUMOR about D'Mitrius Ballard. I did indeed talk to TKO's people and they said it wasn't true.

Former Cuban world amateur champion Yordenis Ugas at lightweight has turned professional recently as has Mexican super-bantamweight Rey Vargas. Both won their debuts.
On a sad note Russias number 4 lightflyeight Victor Vereschagin died a couple of weeks ago.He was the current European student champion which he won in 2009.

William Shamar Whitt and Pedro Sosa are turning pro so I've heard...Sosa has a nice amateur resume...Whitt won various titles including the Golden Gloves in 2008 (I think 152 Novice)...

Not sure about Travis turning pro...my man told me that he moved up to 178 though...I thought Travis would try to win the Gloves in 2011 and then turn pro...if he does it would probably be him and Marcus Browne in the Finals...I think Travis could beat Marcus but he'd have to fight the right fight and probably make it an ugly fight...

Shem got his first victory...Sadam Ali moving along well...I don't think either have promoters tho...probably the reason why they aren't as hyped as other prospects...hope they both do well in the future though...was suprising and somewhat sad seeing Danny Jacobs suffer a devastating KO...he was the best amateur in NY for years...

That's the thing about the pros, one crucial mistake and you could be on the canvas badly hurt...c

Jacobs was in there with Dmitry Pirog who was a Russian National Champ with over 230 amateur bouts. He was no walk in the park. Jacobs will rebound though.

Pirog looked very good. No shame in losing to him. Many greats have suffered a defeat and bounced back from it. I'm not saying Jacobs is great, but this one loss does not preclude him from becoming a great boxer.

Remember how Wladamir got KO'd? Now he seems untouchable in the HW division. Amir Khan got KO'd and is now doing very well. The list goes on and on. Let's see if Danny can learn from that bout and get better.

I edited the thread so we keep the same one for 2011. Any other top amateurs scheduled to go pro soon or who turned pro in the last month or two?

2009 US National & 2009 Natl Golden Gloves Champ Miguel Cartagena (Philadelphia) turning pro. I don't think details have been officially released as far as who is he signed with and when his debut will be---but I do know he is signed.

Probably decided that he didn't want to wait around to see if USAB was going to take his chance at competing in the Olympic Trials away from him or not.

It has been one year since I chose Johnny Garcia as a boxer that i thought was flying under the radar, and Johnny Garcia is 5-0 with 4 KO's since turning pro.
Why is he still Flying under the radar? still remains unsigned?
At some point there's going to be a promoter with a champion on board!

Johnny doesn't fly under my radar. I have sparred with him a couple of times. I am too big for him, but Johnny doesn't care. He also has sparred both of my sons - 201 and 165 which is a little closer in weights but still bigger than him. My 165# son Niall has sparred him the most for obvious reasons. Johnny is a good guy and I think he will make some noise soon.
