Is Mosley finished?

Post by Nels »

Or, without a win (well, one that wasn't disputed) in bloody years, will "Sugar" still be too sweet for David Estrada ?

I admit to not knowing much about the younger guy. I know Angelo Dundee's involved with him in some way, and that he's listed at 5'9" (so it's not like Shane's fighting a massively taller guy for once). Is Estrada quick and manoeuvrable enough to keep Shane "I can't make welter, fornicate, actually I can now" Mosely off-balance and outjab him ? Surely what he needs to do in a ten round fight.

Shane's starting to look old, and his style's always made me a bit uncomfortable -- it worked when he was a lightweight because he was fornicating massive at the weight but he's been manhandled a few times by the bigger guys he's been fighting at welter and 154 lbs.

Will Estrada's chin hold up ?

Thoughts, anyone?

Very interesting fight, I give Estrada a chance - as you said Moseley hasn't won geniunally in years. Not even his match with Marquez was decided.

I thought it was a mistake him moving to light middle and hopefully with him back down to Welter we can get some of the old magic back. I am looking to see clearing improvments in his footwork/speed and hand speed - the factors that brought him success.

If he is the same fighter that laboured vs DLH and got out classed vs Wright - then he could well come unstuck again cause Estrada is okay.

Its a good comeback fight for Moseley, not a forgone conclusion.

I don't know much about Estrada, but I feel that Mosley may have left the move back down to welterweight that bit too late, I thought he looked a lot better against Wright in their second fight, but Wright was probably cruising a lot, and Winky's not the fastest of chaps. If Estrada has a genuine Welterweight's speed, Shane could find himself punching at the air.

Mosley has always been hittable, and speed and power were largely his defence.

Moseley has done irreparable damage to his career by cottoning on to this weight hopping craze - a craze that was brought to new extremes by his 'rival' De La Hoya, Mr. sixty-nine times a 'world' champion in 3000 weight divisions himself.

He made the noble, but regrettable in retrospect, decision to face good fighters in a weight division he hadn't tested the water in. As a result, following his progress since DLH 1 has been like watching a demolition derby. Ironically, he is now taking the sensible approach to entering a weight division and fighting a 'warm up' fight. Funny that his new division is actually the one he last showed any kind of superstar form in.

I don't know enough about Estrada to rate his chances, but I would be very surprised if Moseley's skills show to be better than they were 5 years ago. I imagine we will see him have more power in his punches, but will that be enough?

Mosley might be short of wins lately but last time out he looked better than he has in quite some time, he was clearly out of his division that's all.

Don't know much about Estrada but I'm expecting him to get walloped here.

Yes, you could be right. However, let's not forget Mosley had the speed advantage over Wright, who is not particularly fast even for a LM. Estrada may well be able to match him, and we may see Mosley loading up with his shots again.

Mosley is finished unless he goes back to lightweight or at least, to welter...Mosley used to win by way of KO using his explosivity and speed to hurt his opponents then he could do what he wanted with them...by moving to middle jr he lost both speed and power...he did make some good things against Wright, landed some terrible power punches flush, but their was just not the power to hurt Wright who could keep his gard up and counter...

Mosley would have to chop an arm off to make lightweight mate, that's ridiculous.

I doubt he could make LW either. I reckon welterweight is probably a struggle these days, what with all the roids.

thats why im saying unless he makes it to there there is noway out for Mosley...
but may i recall a fighter who was said to be washed up fat and inactive, lost 25 lbs, came back, won the WBA Lt Heavy belt, and defeated Dariusz Michalchewsky in Germany, showing tremendous skills, power, chin and heart ! his name is Fabrice Tiozzo and he did all that in less than year...so nothing is impossible u know...

What people foget about Mosley is - hes fought the best 2 at 154lbs and the ebst at 147lbs (Forest) - came close in the second Wright fight, and won controversally against DLH - everyone at 147 is far far smaller than Wright, less skilled and a better style match up for Mosley.

Just do the match-ups and tell me who Mosley wouldn't be favourate or 50-50 against at 147.

Judah - Mosleys power/strength/chin/concentration versus Judahs speed/slickness/lack of concentration - I'd pick Mosley by KO

Spinks - Mosley should be able to do what Judah did

Delahoya - beat him twice - lower weight should suit Mosley

Zoo - 50-50

Cintron - I pick Mosley

Marigito - Mosley just seems fundamentally better.

Mayweather - Mosley could win by ko or get schooled.

So theoretically Mosley could dominate 147 but he'd probably lose a fight or 2 along the way. He only lost to the best and those fighters aren't in this class - other than Delahoya who he can beat
