Minter was at a sports do in the Midlands quite recently, which my brother attended, and he was blatantly pissed. He told one punter to shut up.
I met Minter on the Friday night at the amateur even, he was steaming! But a true gent posed happily for photo's and cracked a few jokes.

Can honestly say every fighter there was great with the fans, sat next to Briggs and talked to him for a while and said he hoped he'd put a good showing in against klitchko,

Krzysztof Wlodarczyk was sat by us too and despite not speaking a load of English he talked with us and said he'd welcome a fight with Enzo macc if he gets a few decent fights under his belt and gets back up in class again. although he said he'd have preferred Haye and was a bit sorry that ship has sailed

He picked up a million dollars clear for his first fight with Humberto Gonzalez in 1993 in Las Vegas, where he climbed off the floor twice to flatten Gonzalez in seven rounds in a pay-per-view bonanza. Promoter Bob Arum paid the taxes and the corners and then gave both men a million dollars.
I take it you mean the guy in the Grey suit?

If so that's not Carbajal that's a local councillar lol
Now I'm really confused. Is the guy squatting (if you pardon the expression) in front of the guy in the dark suit Humberto Gonzalez?

I spent a fair bit of time with Barkley. He's not bad. There were a few rumours he wasn't well on Friday and he gone to hospital but he came back after. So i guess he must of been not to bad. He was a very nice guy and enjoyed chatting with him.

As mentioned above and i was lucky enough to spent time with most of the guys who came over they were all complete gentleman and great entertainment.

Has Chiquita Gonzalez nixed the idea of a comeback now? Didn't he announce a comeback last year?

Too right mate. I had a decent bit of crack with him recently. He'd only just started on the shorts though at that point. A bit later on when the compere for the evening wanted to play 'Kings and Queens' (a daft elimination game based on taking up a boxing stance), Nige Benn was the King. 'Alan, do you want to be the Queen?' asks the compere, ho ho.

'YOU F*CKING DO IT!' retorts Al   :box:

Rudkin also challenged Lionel Rose for the world title.

Ok then should the gathering have been 'WBC Champions' and Not quite Champions' evening? As Shavers falls into that category as well - I must be missing the point here though surely????

They are all either current/ex WBC holders or in some cases, challengers for WBC titles.

Their website is awful, but does anyone know if they broke the world record? Apparently it stands at 98...98 what though, is anyone's guess.

I met Shavers years ago, late 80's at the York Hall, must have been just around the time he came to live in the UK I think. He was quite religious, talking about the Good Book and how the Lord had saved him, nice guy though. I seem to recall Kenny was a huge fan of Ernie's ( his No # 1 fan ! ) and talked him in to coming over to do the talk circuit in the UK for awhile...he married his aunt ? Blimey

Unfortunately for Alan he fought 3 great, undisputed world champs in their own backyards. Wasn't there some controversy over the Rose fight Bennie?? I know it was a split decision.

I think it is in Shavers book that he says when he met Kenny's aunt he knew she was the one for him and he describes as "like a house with every brick in the right place". Perhaps not the most romantic description but well meant!!
I have met Earnie quite a few times when he is on the door at Yates's in Liverpool city centre and he is a lovely chap, happy to talk about his career and really polite and respectful to everybody.

From memory, Rob, a well-known Aussie boxing journalist was drafted into the role of judge and he came up with a ridiculously biased score for Rose, although Rose undoubtedly did enough to win. The fight is on youtube and Rose is the complete article - unbelievable with the right hand counter - and for Rudkin to push him so close speaks volumes for his own ability.
Olivares would ruin Rose a short while later in LA, flooring him five times.
