Paul Smith vs Robert Stieglitz.Who wins?

Post by lefty »

I think this would be an intriguing fight, both of these guys are decent technicians and i dont think they're is much to pick between them.Paul is a good boxer with nice speed and solid if not huge power.Stieglitz is also a pretty decent boxer who has nice speed and solid power also although i might give him a slight edge in the power department.Ive seen Stieglitz's fights against berrio,Andrade,Balzsay and gutneckt and he's a sound fighter!Particularily in the fight against against Andrade he showed alot of heart and determination before finally being stopped by the robot!Lol.Anyway this is a fight id pay to watch, whats everyone elses thoughts?

Stieglitz has fought a much higher level of competition in IBF champ Berrio, World challenger Andrade and his win over former champ Karol Balzsay has seen him beat the man, who beat former holder Denis Inkin, who beat Zuniga.

I also think he has developed over the last 3+ years and is not so much of a rookie now.

That said, Smith can beat him.

It's a harder task than i think people realise if im honest, but Smith can grit him out of there.

BUT NOT IN GERMANY !

Yeah i agree that it would be near on impossible to get a decision in germany so Mr Warren would have to work his magic and get the fight over here in the uk!I definietly think Paul could win it but like you said i think it would be a close fight as i dont think there is alot to choose between them in all round ability. Both solid fighters who i think are a little shot of the elite in the division but thats no shame as the super-middle division at present is extreemly competitive and full of talent.

It would certainly be Paul's most difficult fight to date if it happened, but i have been saying for a while this is a fight that Paul can win.
Stieglitz comes forward in straight lines quite often, and can be caught on the counter. Paul would have to be carefull of throwing the right hand over the top too often, as he opens up to the uppercut.
I think both guys are pretty even in terms of ability and power, and both have shown they can come through wars (stieglitz v balsay) (smith v dodson). Both have been able to bounce back from losses, notably stiegltiz from a KO from berrio, and smith from a contentious decision against bendall.
Both can go the distance, and both seem to be able to cope with a decent amount of pressure when being pushed back.
The only question mark would be can smith deal at world level, where stieglitz has been operating for a while now? Well we wont know for sure until it happens, but with smith you tend to feel as the fight goes on there is more in the tank throughout the fight, especially against quigley, where i think if there had been another round, he would have stopped him. He is clearly training properly for fights going the distance. All i would like to see is a little bit more in terms of bursts of punching and combinations. He looks top when he does this.
I think we are yet to see the best of smigga and stieglitz could bring out the best in him.
Plus he is a tough as fornicate :bag:

yeh, I echo above comments, from the little I've seen Stieglitz would be a nice style match even if Smith couldn't beat him.

would be a tough fight think stieglitz is underated by some but as avid said he comes forward in straight lines and he can be hurt id favor smith to win on points if the fight is at the echo but would be alot trickier if the fight in germany, hopefully this comes off after mcdermott figth

I would hope for at least top euro level opponent after mcdrrmott if no world title shot. I would hope smigga is only 2-3 fights away from at least a crack at the wbo

boxing is a buisness. smith is the national champion were international fight's are marketable,a shot could pop up tomorrow if the buisness is made, there is no league.

also ive never seen steilgtz fight, so dont know.

I think the fight with stieglitz is a real 50/50 fight but as said above the fight would have to be over here so Paul got a fair crack of the whip :bag: the other champion thow WBA sartison is the Easter fight out of the two and one I think Paul would stop! So I think go for sartison first!

Yeah i agree that Sartison would be an easier job although when he fought Kessler he did momentarily wobble him and showed alot of heart when he was getting unloaded on with alot of big shots!

Stieglitz has fought and won at a much higher level, and is clearly the better fighter, in my opinion. I don't see it as a 50/50 matchup at all, and don't see how anyone can make the fight that close, unless they are biased.

Stieglitz has obviously improved over the years and would probably be too much for Smith. He can be hurt, but he hasn't looked fragile as of late, and let's remember Berrio and Andrade are very strong. Balzsay hits just as hard as Smith and is a skilled boxer (two-time Olympian) but Stieglitz walked through punches with little trouble. Even Stieglitz' most recent opponent, Gutknecht, is just as proven as Smith, and Stieglitz won almost every round.

With confidence I would pick Stieglitz. Of course, Smith could win, he is no bum, but I think a Stieglitz win is much more likely.

Stieglitz and his team would probably think that it would be near impossible to get a decision in the UK. UK and Germany aren't that far apart when it comes to irregular scoring.

I have many times. I actually like his style quite a bit and he has been involved in some really good fights that are worth checking out.

I have watched Steglitz when I was preparing to fight Jindrich Velecky, He had boxed him just before me and went the distance with him, Steglitz has underated power and is very tidy, However boxing in Germany and boxing in front of 10'000 scousers is 2 different things, Paul knows how to bring the crowd round and they'd play a huge part in spuring him on to victory, I would prefer the sartisan fight as Paul would look great beating him but if Steglitz is the one then so be it, Liverpool needs a world champion and fast.. :TU:

fw has had some of the best super middles in the world in recent year's & could never get the kraut's over here, so why for smith?? he aint a big a name as benn, eubank's, reid, woodhall, cately, wharton, calzaghe etc.

i aint seen steilgz, but it seem's people think he's a bum because he is not as highly commended as the other champion's but is still world class.personly i dont know if smith can beat this calibre, he certainly will give anyone an arguement & if he was to fail can allway's drop back down to his naturall weight were i think his strength's come into play alot more & would stand a far better chance in making his dream's become true.

The difference is that both Stieglitz and Sartison are promoted by Kohl, whose is no longer bankrolled by ZDF after his TV deal ended last month.

Super middleweight IS my natural weight.
It's also a bit unfair comparing me to Benn, Eubank etc. They were all around in the boxing heyday and or had terrestrial tv to help them along, regardless of their ability.
I have had ITV4, Setanta and Sky Sports. Regarding being a big name, I don't claim to be one. But I will sell 10,000 at the Echo Arena which apart from Hatton, Khan, Froch, Haye & Mitchell - Not many other British fighters could. Obviously that is with the help of a good undercard as are most shows at arenas.

im not comparing you in that way, them fighter's were world champion's & had great drawing power due to terrestral t.v & great fight's & could sell out football ground's & cant get the german's to fight outside of germany, were ko's are needed even in this day & age to relieve the champion's.

when i look at your build, i put you in macklins & barker's mould who would look no diffrent at 12st, if you say your not a middle who am i to argue.

your not too small,it's just that the top fighter's seem humungus in comparison. that stielgz started out as a light heavy & you a light middle & also ive never called you a big head, your a nice guy.

I get you. I was never a light middle by the way - Debut 11st 10lb - lightest I've been is 11st 5 & 1/4 lb
You were saying I wasn't as big a name, that's all I was pointing out - No malice intended.

mate, there are too many "X vs Y - who wins" topics. Lets talk about the fights that are happening and are close to being signed. If people want to talk about mythical matchups, lets create a forum for that.
