cue outraged responses and a 3 page thread hahaha
Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
I think Barkers extra class will tell and predict Macklin will get stopped late after throwing the kitchen sink at the Londoner
Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
Very good. You got to admit, Barker is a class act. From his boxing from the way he carries himself at ringside on ITV etc. He's no mug and seems pretty switched on.
It's a very decent fight w've got coming here and Barker sounds very confident indeed of his chances. I think he believes that he is not going to get overly complicated in there. All Barker will do is eat right, train right, spar right and then on the night box to the best of his ability and get the win in the bag.
It's up to Macklin to show that all this talk about him globe-trotting, swapping trainers and so forth has improved him. But I cant see Matty bothering to get phycological on Barker, as he's just too focused to fall for that stuff.
I want both men to be at their very best for this one.
The more i read of Barker's prep and attitude, the more I worry for Macklin's 12 hours transatlantic American training camp.
Like a broken record, I still say Macklin should keep his camp over here. As good as Roach is, I can't see what magical wand he's going to wave over Matty will do for him. Maybe it's a phycological edge Matty needs, and finds it by going to Freddie.
All bets are off though, as i cant pick a winner.

Terrible pundit though, the Froch/Kessler "banter" on primetime was woeful, as was the analysis.
Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
macklinis gonna be dangerous early & possibly late on if barker tires unless he's to bust up himself.
Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
Barker looked really shagged out after about 6/7 rounds last time out against Belghecham. He'll need to pace himself much better against Macklin.
I reckon this one will be really close, with Barker taking the win on points.

Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
shouldn't he be out selling his 4k tickets
Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
Barker needs to box very smart early. If he takes Macklin past four rounds I believe Macklin will be ripe for the KO. McDermott-style.

Excellent interview by Ben Carey.

I'd put my house against a Barker KO mateDioufy wrote:Barker needs to box very smart early. If he takes Macklin past four rounds I believe Macklin will be ripe for the KO. McDermott-style.
Macklin's chin is cast iron! The Moore KO was more exhaustion in my opinion. Nothing at all taken away from JM for his win and amazing performance of course. Moore landed better shots earlier on.

Jamie stiffened Matt's legs with a jab for a kickoff, 2nd or 3rd round i think. you've doubtless seen more of Macklin's chin than I have though.Smigga wrote:I'd put my house against a Barker KO mateDioufy wrote:Barker needs to box very smart early. Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
Macklin by a k.o , he's a hard nut, and i dont think barker has fought a good hard scrapper yet. My money on Macklin within 5 rounds.
Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
it's going to be a tough close fight, with Barker quite possibly looking great to start off, as undoubtedly he is a classy boxer, but i can see Macklin's strength and power telling rounds 8-9 TBH.
Against Moore he was without doubt handicapped by weight draining issues. Taking nothing away from moore, he would no doubt have given macklin as hard a fight if macklin had been a natural light middleweight

Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
Why is Barker having to travel,as champion, when he is selling 4,000 tickets 120 miles away from home?
Those numbers suggest he could fill the Wembley arena for a fight of this stature.I know Meaty's lads have been loyal but after the Froch t.v debacle and Murray stagnating i think its time the lads looked after themselves.

Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
I agree Smig, i hit him with harder shots earlier but it was more exhaustion and accumulation than one shot. Macklin's got a good chin, and as someone said before i haven't been overly impressed by Barker so far, although if he turn's in a good performance Vs Mat then it'll change my opinion, win or lose. For Barker to say Macklin's not in his league is crazy talk, and if Macklin blows him away, which is a possibilty, then he's gonna look pretty silly.Smigga wrote:I'd put my house against a Barker KO mateDioufy wrote:Barker needs to box very smart early. Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
macklin looked massive at l.middle & his advantage was being the stronger, he drained himself down but looked allright forcing the fight. he threw everything at moore & it went down to who had the better engine.
i know barker well & he's so mentally tough & confident, he would die out there & people say he aint had it tough bla bla bla, they will see soon enough how determined he is, it's his best strength.

Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
Fair play to Barker who sounds very confident for the fight; Has Barker been at middle all his career? He may hit harder than people think. Macklin was devastating Asikainen; I think we are in for a really good fight. You shouldn't wish your life away but I am looking forward to the big September bill.
Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
i dont no wat barker jamie moorses been watching but i think everyone in britain has been overly impressed with darren barker. Its not barkers fault everyone keeps avoiding him u can only beat whos put in front of you. wayne elcock didnt fancy it macklins turned the fight down before and i recon moorsey wouldnt last a round against barker.

Re: Barker - 'Macklin's not in my league'
Not particularly. He really blew last time. Some good solid wins with out a doubt but the way some are talking is as if he's a great in the making. I don't see him being amongst the best Europe myself (Pirog and Golovkin especially). I favour Macklin here personallybigh wrote:i dont no wat barker jamie moorses been watching but i think everyone in britain has been overly impressed with darren barker. Sounds like you know your stuff then, coz obviously that was my best performance.bigh wrote:i dont no wat barker jamie moorses been watching but i think everyone in britain has been overly impressed with darren barker. Barkers last performance was fantastic too.
Gotta try better than that kid.
