Not quite random although random in the sense that I didn't go there purposely to meet him but I have met Earnie Shavers quite a few times when he is on the door at Yates's in Liverpool city centre and he is a lovely chap, happy to talk about his career and really polite and respectful to everybody. One of thr first times I met him I said "I can't believe Holmes gets up from that shot in the 2nd fight" and Earnie replied "Maaaan, neither can I!!".
When I worked collecting debts I spoke to guy in London who had a foreign accent, at the end of the conversation I asked him his name and he said "Panos Eliades". It was only as I put the phone down that I twigged who it was, iirc Eliades made his money as an administrator and/or liquidator.

I seem to recall it was Davey Pearl who made the call, Warrior, although he and Lane are very similar. Shavers told me about his friendship with Holmes when he came to the Midlands in 2003. I was chatting to him as they showed him brutalizing Kenny Norton on the ropes on a big screen at BarSports in Cannock. Norton could never fight going backwards.
