Whatever happened to his pro career? I expected him to really go places but nothing ever really happened considering his potential. Did he just lack dedication?hurlock wrote:i see matthew thirlwall go a few times & boy can he have it on the cobbles

Seen a couple of ex-pro's fighting in the street(not against each other)and quite a few amateurs, with varying success.
Worth noting that the only times I have seen them come off worse is when they have been completely drunk and then outweighed massively.
Don't buy into the street fighting tosh. The real hardmen do it in the ring where there are rules and you can't sneak attack to get(the assumingly much needed)advantage.
Heard that Ricky Hatton story a million times and it's hilarious thinking there is some fella walking about bragging that he hit a pissed up Ricky Hatton from the side etc. Wonder how this "hard man" would fancy his chances in a genuine one on one fight with Hatton? Probably wouldn't fancy having his life extingusihed I reckon.
Street fighting is, in the main(sometimes it's impossible to walk away), reserved for utter twats though.

Graham Brett, who is about 48 now was a 6'0 lightweight and only had about half a dozen pro fights, but over 120 unpaid, got into a fight in the Lord Burleigh Pub on Vauxhall Bridge Road. He sparked 4 squaddies who were taking the piss out of his Mrs. This was about 6 or 7 years ago. He was like fooking ligthtening. The 4 of them were literally out cold on the floor. Could have been a very good pro but couldnt keep out of the pub, even in his late teens. Great streetfighter uis Bretty.

He always used to rub his bloody nose in a fighters shoulders. It was pretty disgusting really, but I guess its one way to clear the blockage and make you breath better.bennie wrote:Gerrard's last fight was against Lewis. The big Welshman suffered a busted eye socket and couldn't fight again.DIRT SUGAR wrote:Andy Gerrard, big lump, former Lennox Lewis early career cannon fodder worked the door in The Royal in Ramsgate and can't quite remember how the altercation went but he was throwing someone in my gang out and a friend protested and Gerrard dragged him out and flattened him with a big right hand outside. My friend's about 10st... Gerrard big bastard. Mate went down hit his head on the floor and was very lucky to not be seriously hurt. Absolute liberty and of course when he complained to club's owner video tape from camera was deleted.
Was so happy when his bar on Margate seafront had its licence taken a year or so ago. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke.
Re: have you ever seen a boxer in a fight out of the ring ?
Aye, a few years ago some 300lb lug accused me of staring at him(I hadn't seen him before in my life) saying he wanted a "straightener" with me so I kicked him as hard as could in the bollocks, he went down squealing, I walked away, the end.yiddo14 wrote:Street fighting is, in the main(sometimes it's impossible to walk away), reserved for utter twats though.
Never seen him since.
Re: have you ever seen a boxer in a fight out of the ring ?
Eubank said once a pro boxer is always dangerous and would beat 90% of men on the street.
Of course theres that other 10% who can fight or are rock hard - he didnt talk about them.
P4P a pro boxer will beat an everyday fella in a fair fight.

That's a shame; boxing is a honest enough way to make a living. Gangsters thrive on death. Lets hope that Thirwall doesn't do anything to silly to impress his friends or get involved in selling drugs. (Filthy karma; honestly).hurlock wrote:Deserter wrote:Whatever happened to his pro career? I expected him to really go places but nothing ever really happened considering his potential. If he ever got into a row I swear he was NEVER the one to start it but where he was big and had this reputation people wanted to try it on... OB used to literally sit there and wait till he had finished with the bloke before they went near it because he was an absolute terror. One bloke had a mate with him who tried to join in when his mate was taking a pasting... he threw him out the window of this boozer almost as a reflex - no thought in it he just lobbed the geezer into the road and then carried on punching the other bloke into the floor. Moved to France in the end which was weird because as far as I knew he'd never left the county before let alone the country.
