Maurice Brien known as Badger Brien was friend and sparring partner of Jim Driscoll.Newspaper report 20-03-1916 stated Badger Brien well known Cardiff boxer who served with the Munsters through the Gallipoli Campaign has been promoted Sergeant on the field and is now in Salonika.Surprisingly Badger was not included in the recent book of Cardiff Boxers of Wales Maybe because he fought Newports Johnny Basham on three occasions but perhaps not so surprising as the Welsh Warriors Boxing Site does not appear to have even heard of Johnny Basham.
