Ryan Rhodes - Possible route to the title?

Post by stujones »

In a bit of a major upset Cornelius Bunderage upset Cory Spinks to win the IBF title. Ryan Rhodes I believe in ranked 4th with the IBF. This might now go higher with Spinks falling down and the recent #3 Bunderage moving to Champion status.

Looking at the rankings with the IBF, above him are Paul Williams (okay tough one) and the fghter currently in #1 is Sechew Powell, quite beatable as is the new champion.

Having said that I remember Bunce absolutely slagging of Bunderage as a bit of a "no hoper" after he beat that EBU champion that kept ducking Moore - well this no-hoper has now dominated and KO'd a multiple world champion. I do think at 37 his style suits Rhodes though.

How fightnews don't have Rhodes in the top 15 in the world is beyond me.

Good points. Wonder if K9 could be tempted back to the UK? Unless he thinks he can somehow cash in on a bigger name looking for a title.

I would say Sechew Powell would fit that bill also and could double up as an eliminator. Maybe the fighter who is apparently calling out everyone in the UK - Kassim Ouma.

on his summer holidays?

i can't see rhodes going for the IBF, when he's gone some way to earning an IBF title shot.

i doubt he'll be looking past his next opponent konekny, who gave the masterful sergei dzinziruk 12 very tough rounds of back-and-forth action.

if rhodes stops konekny, that will get him some notices.

he may not be rated by fightnews but ring ma have had him in the top 10 since he beat jamie moore (who was also rightfully in their top 10).

Konecny has a decent ranking with the IBF...... He's actually as highly ranked with the IBF as he is with the WBC... and there is a lot more beatable champion with the IBF.

Warren should be trying to press Konecny vs Rhodes as an eliminator for the #2 position of something. Be a bit harsh on Powell to lose his number #1 status which he has just earned in an eliminator (although Powell has had loads of second chances).

Paul Williams remains unclear of his next plans - so realistically it's only Powell in the way of Rhodes..... of course that's assuming (and its a big if) he gets past Konecny.
