Pretty sure Joe Cal and Prince Naseem didn't skip much as they didst like it (certainly Joe Cal) - not that they couldn't mind.
Rocky Marciano looked like a baby Rhino trying to skip - massively unco-ordinated for such a great fighter.

Re: Are there any boxers who cant skip?!
I'm not the greatest fan of skipping its about the only exercise is try and avoid purely cos when I do my shoulders freeze up hurts like anything!!!
Re: Are there any boxers who cant skip?!
Steve Collins refused to skip when interviewed on the Jack Docherty show (very early channel five). He said he was rubbish at it.

That's a great question.
I went to a boxerobics class a few times that Herol Graham was running. I can't skip for toffee and he was less than impressed. The kicker was when he busted me doing the skipping motion without the rope. I thought I'd get away with it from a distance, then he started walking towards me.
A new low. Even for me.

collins never run eather all he done was sparring and circuit training
Re: Are there any boxers who cant skip?!
Guy i used to train with , was'nt much of a boxer skill wise , but , christ he was fit , he could throw for every second of every round , he would skip 2 rounds very slow to warm up and that was it .
Regards running , he never done any , flatly refused to get on the road , he said , when i see racehorses kicking the bag i'll go out running , til then i'm gonna do out the ring excatly what i do in it and throw punches ,
So all he would ever do was shadow spar , bag work , padwork , spar , and fight . He won most his fights and never evet run out of steam . no matter how long or hard the fight , or spar

I was a member (for a brief time) of the gym in Sheffield where Herol works...even off duty he used to come round and give you stick! He's a ball of energy. He did a 24-hour skipathon for charity a while back...allowed 5 minutes off per hour. Jeez.
Re: Are there any boxers who cant skip?!
He's at Virgin in Sheffield now. I've not been to a class yet. Just in case I jog his memory. But yes, a ball of energy indeed, bless him. And the fittest dude in the gym.

I can't skip at all. First and last time I tried resulted in a dislocated thumb, which my mum, a nurse, tried to put back in for about an hour. One of the worst days of my life.

Re: Are there any boxers who cant skip?!
i think skipping's a great exercise. good for the heart, good all-body workout, good for coordination - using a speed rope. always been heavy on my feet, but i found skipping pretty easy to learn. like to do it barefoot but hate to do it in trainers. can get repetitive on the muscles but you can vary it, i.e. doing ali shuffle style movements or just going from one foot to the other.
Re: Are there any boxers who cant skip?!
I live in Heeley Mr McNeilly. It even rhymes. The bromance beckons.
Do you still go there? I see a chap there regularly in boxing t-shirts - Peter-Toney 2, Hatton Promotions and the like. But I've never spoken to the chap.
Is this getting creepy???
Would you like it to??
