James Degale vs George Groves.who wins?

Post by lefty »

I think this is an intriguing match up,After watching Groves vs contreras i was impressed with groves speed and pure ability but a little worried regarding the defensive part of his game.At the moment he is too easy to hit and also when he did get caught against contreras he was wobbled even if it was only momentarily,so does this mean that Groves chin is a little suspect?Ive also read articles where he has said himself that Froch floored him in sparring and i also know he was knocked down and hurt badly at times in the ams so it makes you wonder!Regarding Degale,he's a guy that i dont particularily enjoy watching from a stylistic perspective and i dont think his technique is great ie he cuffs/slaps with alot of his punches.I do think that degale possesses power though and i get the feeling he is pretty durable and could have a pretty decent chin as he doesnt mind mixing it on the inside and getting hit with shots. He also has good hand speed too.I prefer Groves as a fighter but im really not sure who win this fight!Whats everyone elses thoughts?

totally agree.

degale by late stoppage

im a fan of both degale and groves and think they can both go on to win major titles.

but imo degale is the smarter fighter of the 2 and will have too much skill for groves and will be a bit too cute.

it will be a good fight and i am not overly convinced that degale will win as groves is a bigger puncher and has a better jab, but i just dont see degale being silly enough to have a tur up with groves, i believe he will try to out box groves and as the fight goes on degale will catch groves more and more and force a stoppage with pure amonts of un answered shots.

jusy my oppinion tho as i say i really rate groves and he has the power to stop degale no doubt about that, but like i say i cant see this being a slug fest more a chess match

1 things for sure there will be plenty of fireworks and i for 1 cant wait for this fight, not sure when this will happen tho coz you know f.w will want to make as much money as possible so maybe only when both have big titles my guess would be 2012

I just think Groves is overated. He loads up to much and then admires his own work, carries his hands far to low and has a questionable chin.I know it sounds harsh, but i am judging him as a contender for the British title, not a 10 fight novice.I honestly believe he will get found out at British level.I doubt the match will happen though....

Im not sure either way but i agree on the technique front!Alot of Degales punches are loopy and cuffing type shots which isnt attractive to watch.

I can see some of the things you have mentioned and i do agree with you but i cant agree on him being found out at british title level! He's clearly good enough to win that.

But is he?I would have Degale and Smith to beat him now and they are both British.I doubt he will even go that route anyway.

Why not think about increasing their KO’s to 10 and putting them in with grubbers like Abraham?

Groves is one of the better British prospects I've seen in recent times.

He could go a long way in my opinion, and is clearly open to further improvement.

I'm not seeing a great technique from Degale - I'd go as far as to say it's one of his weakest points, certainly when he is put under pressure.

His ability to adapt is probably the biggest shortfall in his game at the moment, when he is pressured his game falls apart, he gets vey ragged and can fall to his opponents level.

On saying that I dont thing Groves is that hot either, but probably punches a little more correctly than Degale.

I think there is enough history between the two to conclude that it would be a distance fight, i'd pick Groves at the minute, but if Degale can improve I think he is in the longer term, the better prospect.

Groves, by stoppage, somewhere around round 9, 10 or 11.

DeGale has fought nobody, and I mean nobody, even half-decent as a pro yet. There could really be an upset on the cards with the fella.

Can't see the fight happening unless its for a world title & both will have worked on their flaws in their games. Groves will have to learn to cover up if Degale is infront of him

Degale hasn't got enough power to make Groves think twice. His KO ratio is very deceptive.

Groves by mid round stoppage.

I fear the money has already gone to James' head. He hasn't looked overly impressive, if anything he looks awkard at times, trying to imitate Floyd Mayweathers defence. He doesn't always appear to be in the best shape - thus I don't think he is as hungry in the gym as he could be.

I honestly believe Groves would outclass him and possibly stop him.

I think its hard to tell really I'd like to go for groves I think. Just cos degale hasn't even fought anyone his own weight yet they're all blown up light middles and he's a bit of a fatty himself aswell doesn't look in very good shape. Where as groves is super strong at the weight.

Why is Groves super strong at the weight?Ihave seen a lot bigger twelve stoners. The last kid he boxed didnt even flinch after being hit with shot after shot, desipte being sparked a few times earlier in his career. As for James, you dont win Olympic Golds by being "a fatty".We will see

I'd take Degale on points. I sort of understand what he's saying though. I wouldn't be surprised if Degale could make 160.

Groves always looks strong and you only have to look at the team behind him that they will be concentrating on power and strength. As for winning gold wasn't that at a lower weight? He never looks in good shape I know that doesn't really say much about his talent but I've never seen a good champion under heavyweight with flabby bits over his shorts perhaps I'm wrong tho. I'm not a massive fan of degales I think he's super talented but has he got what it takes who knows. Amateur and pro have proven many times that they are different sports all together almost. I wish him the best and hope he wins titles cos its good for British boxing and we don't get behind our fighters enough but I know if I were given a chance against him in the future I'd expose his weak chin and have him out of there. IFTKWOODY all the way lol!!!!
