Limond v Morales
Limond v Morales
Apologies if there is already a thread related to this - Willie Limond is boxing Erik Morales next month. Did I miss something, or is the news to others?
Good luck to Willie he might be in with a shot!

If Limmond beats Morales, it will be a sad day for boxing.

Re: Limond v Morales
Whilst I want all Scottish boxers to do well and I think this is a fantastic opportunity for Willie to make a bit of money, it would be a real shame to see someone like Morales lose to a fighter like Willie. Limond is a decent domestic level operator but realistically shouldn't belong in the same ring as someone like Morales (who should have stayed retired after the Diaz loss).
I'm sure Willie would agree but its not his concern, he has a fantastic opportunity to get some great exposure and set up a couple of paydays if he wins.

Re: Limond v Morales
aren't they on about putting a really good fighter on the undercard - was it former junior flyweight champ edgar sosa?

Re: Limond v Morales
I remember reading about this fight ages ago in Boxing News a few months ago which contained the write up for David Haye's fight against John Ruiz in his defence of the WBA Heavyweight belt. I think Willie Limond will go a few round with Erik Morales, however Morales' superior experience and quality will shine through in this fight though. But alas this is boxing and who knows.
Re: Limond v Morales
Why have team Morales picked Willie Limond to box out of everyone else in the world? Best of luck to Willie but (I imagine) they will box in the USA or Mexico; he is really up against it. Morales is way, way past his best but his worst effort is better than most others very best, (no disrespect to Limond who can really box and has guts aplenty).

Here we go again with the negativity. I do wonder if you have a boxer that you have positive things to say about.markp wrote:If Limmond beats Morales, it will be a sad day for boxing.
This couldn't happen to a nicer fella in Willie Limmond and I would be absolutely delighted if he can pull this off.
Morales is nothing to what he was - in my opinion a boxing great with balls of steel and a lovely style. I enjoy watching Limmond's fights, textbook style and a great example to show kids - "That's how to box" - similar to Woodhall in the past.
Boxing is about timing. It was a sad day for me when Danny Williams beat a truly faded Mike Tyson but it certainly wasn't for Danny Williams
Good luck Willie!

I hope they are not chasing a fight with Khan!
Re: Limond v Morales
Best of luck to Willie; it must be very difficult when you know the lad who is to box. I just had a look at who Willie has boxed since Khan (Willie was brought in as a pretty small and safe opponent). There's been no bouts this year and 4 since 2007. Willie is a very neat boxer who knows where both hands are at all times. He would get in with anyone so has lots of guts. Salita wanted to box him in New York a year or 2 ago; most likely because Willie dropped Khan. Boxing is about timing but if Willie beats Morales; what would he gain; a great name on his ledger and the chance of a savage beating against a very hard hitting welterweight. I know how important money is in our world but Willie wasn't the hardest hitter at junior lightweight; some of the top 20 or so welters are very young, very hungry and hit very hard.Smigga wrote:Here we go again with the negativity. Yep, in his last bout he beat Lightweight contender(and former title holder) Jose Alfaro up at Welterweight for the WBC International bauble.Smigga wrote:Morales is a welterweight now?simon fox wrote:Best of luck to Willie; it must be very difficult when you know the lad who is to box. It looked like Morales had plenty of flesh to lose and really he should be down at Light-Welterweight at least(if he really insists on continuing), but this bout is at Welterweight aswell. One thing about his last fight though is that he apparently still had to dehydrate quite a bit to make Welterweight, hopefully this time Erik has just lost some of that flesh instead.
I like Willie, but Erik is my favourite ever fighter and I'll have to route for him.

Of course I agree that it would be a great personal win for Willie.Smigga wrote:Here we go again with the negativity. I do wonder if you have a boxer that you have positive things to say about.markp wrote:If Limmond beats Morales, it will be a sad day for boxing.

But the entire world of boxing would be sad that a great like Morales lost to a fighter like Limmond.

Re: Limond v Morales
Too true. Willie spoke to me at the footie and has been on the shelf to the point he said he went back to playing local football because nothing was happening, its all part of boxing's cycle, the best get old, new blood comes along. Now sure Limond isn't in Morales league at his peak but were Morales at his peak he'd be fighting fighters of greater repute.Smigga wrote:Here we go again with the negativity. Re: Limond v Morales
agree with markp. if Limond gets the better of morales i hope he shows due respect to a guy who would have literally murdered him when he was even slightly past his best, nevermind his prime.
As for Williams, his lack of respect to Tyson after his victory is the reason i watched his beating against klitchko 3 times on that day and the reason i jumped for joy when he got fllattened by audley

It's just the nature of boxing. It is saddening when you see one of the sports true legends getting beaten up by someone who wouldn't have stood a chance with them years prior but that doesn't make it any less of a great opportunity for a fighter and if the opponents get carried away with their enthusiasm and excitement about fighting one of the greats then so what. I'm sure this will be the pinnacle to Limond.
Morales didn't look too good in his last fight and was in very bad shape, I definitely couldn't write any fighter off beating him, he just hasn't got it anymore sadly. If Willie wins he makes a name for himself and gets a chance to earn a decent payday.
I don't want to see Morales look a shadow of himself and take a beating but that's what happens eventually when great fighters don't know when to call it a day.
