another piss poor match up by the ebu! morriison has done nothing to deserve a shot! mccloskey wins in 7 for me. hopefully he can get a world title shot soon. needs to step up in competition tho.

Re: Paul McCloskey vs Barry Morrison October 2nd
Am i right in saying mccloskey is promoted by matchroom and managed by peters?
Re: Paul McCloskey vs Barry Morrison October 2nd
poor match up yeah but daws didn't spark Morrison, didn't he get stopped thru exhaustion? I'm sure I read that it was due to an iron deficiency they found?HomeOfBritishBoxing wrote:totally agree!! daws sparked morrison then defended his title twice. morrison got ko'd then fought a 2-80 journeyman and gets a shot at the european..what a joke.Chris W 1982 wrote:McCloskey v Daws is the one I want to see

Still, if McCloskey isn't going to waste momentum and his prime, surely he should be pushing on beyond Morrison who is a step beneath European title level.
Re: Paul McCloskey vs Barry Morrison October 2nd
Paul McCloskey defends his European light-welterweight title against Motherwell’s Barry Morrison in the Irish Republic on October 2.
The unbeaten McCloskey, from north of the border, comes off a slapdash defence against Italy’s slippery Giussepe Lauri and will be hoping for a sharper display against Morrison, a former British champion whose form has been disappointingly mixed of late.
Southpaw McCloskey, 21-0 (11), won the title last year with a nine-round stoppage of Spain’s Daniel Rasilla and, at his best, is strong and aggressive and surprisingly slick. Morrison, 18-4 (8), is similarly aggressive and goes well to the body but he can be tagged and was stopped for the first time in his career by Lenny Daws in 10 rounds recently. Like most Scots, Morrison is an immensely proud man. He will see this as a quick chance to gain redemption. Expect a long, hard fight between men with something to prove; expect the champion’s greater strength to prove decisive.

Not a great match, not a problem this not being on Sky as most eyes will be on Monaco that night.
Re: Paul McCloskey vs Barry Morrison October 2nd
Morrison seesm to get Line up with title shots every few fights

It looks like Andy Murray is stepping up opponent.
About time really...
Anyone got any info (apart from his record; http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer) on the guy he's fighting??
At least Murray had been kept active this year which can only be a good thing....

not very excited about this bill to be honest. The Peters bill in Dublin is ten times better.

I notice your quite critical of Andy at times Slap. Not from this thread but from others. Here and on boards you constantly talk up Irish fighters who don’t have the record or ability that Andy has. Granted Peters hasn’t helped Andy at times with piss poor opposition but at the end of the day he could only beat whats puts in front of him and he has. I sat ringside at the Peter McDonagh fight and was impressed, again I was at the Fagan fight and Andy schooled him, I mean in a respectful manner.slapbangwhallop wrote:five years ago - at featherweight! hhmmmmm!!!HomeOfBritishBoxing wrote:the guy he is fighting is good and only lost to good fighters. good step up for murray.03mcgs0 wrote:It looks like Andy Murray is stepping up opponent.

From what I hear he’s a genuine nice guy, who helps lots of the amateurs around Cavan. I seen him in nightclubs after a few, and he was always tidy and never with a big head on him. For what he is I respect, no I don’t think he’s World Champ material, but a good honest European fighter is what he is.
Liking your website by the way, better than Irish Boxing.

Good point, looking at his recent record i'm struggling to see the merrits in giving morrison
another title shot at the moment. It looks to be a fight where the only people who cant lose
are the promoters,sound familiar?

Andy is a model person and professional - I cant fault the guy, its his lack of progression that I have an issue with.
Its all just too cautious to get me excited - Murray is too cautious and Peters is too cautious. I thought he would push on and gain confidence from winning the EU title but he went backwards and had threaded water.
Give me something to get excited about, give me something to enjoy - take on someone that you are not 90% sure of winning the fight.
Good luck to him - he has stopped his last four and looked good in Limerick - but what are the waiting for? John Murray to vacate the European title?

That's half the problem on why people don't warm to him I guess. You can't beat a fella who has a bit of loose talk out of him!slapbangwhallop wrote:flattery will get you everywhere!!03mcgs0 wrote:I notice your quite critical of Andy at times Slap.
