anyone want James Toney to do well next week?

Post by big lennox »

I have always had a soft spot for Toney, as skilful and tough as you like, and everyone seems to be writing him off against Courture, and I have to to admit that I don't fancy his chances on the ground, but would love it if he landed early and won.I have to say though that looking at interviews, Randy Courture, seems a thoroughly decent and respectful bloke.

I would love Toney even more if that happened. Earlier this week he said something like 'Hopkins need to shut up and go have his teeth fixed. David Haye is gay.' He is simply funny as f*ck, even though he has been utterly deluded for years.

Surely he's going to get smashed to bits though, even though I know nothing about MMA.

I posted an interview with Haye in the Other Sports section as I thought it had a really telling quote in there. He basically said that he's NEVER been able to properly connect on an MMA guy who's been trying to take him to the ground when sparring. That suprised me given Haye's speed and timing, and doesn't bode well for Toney at all.

Christ on a bike he looks grimly obese in those linked pictures. He makes Danny Williams at his Mr Kipling zenith look like Karen Carpenter.

I want Couture to win. He's a cool dude and I think JT is as delusional about UFC as he is about his chances of beating a Klitschko.

Couture is past his prime if he gets caught big by toney, he will get sparked. I think this is a 50/50 fight Toney will loose by submission or KO "The Natural" Couture.

UFC fighters also tend to run to get space when the leather flys - technique rather than cowardice - toney wont be taking a step back.

I agree that Couture has looked very chinny in his last few fights and will fall if Toney lands anything decent, but I don't think it's a 50/50 fight. If Couture shoots for a takedown straight away, Toney won't even have a chance to punch him. MMA fighters from Pride had trouble getting used to fighting in a cage and these were former champions. For JT, being pushed up against a fence by a wrestler will be a totally alien experience. JT is 5/1 with betfair at the moment and I think that is a fair reflection of his chances.

He looks in terrible shape, with his gut hanging over his shorts and a huge arse. Obviously not been taking this as serious as he should.

Hopefull for him it will be over quickly. I can see Couture tying him up on the cage and then taking hin down, where he proceeds to just drain Toney of energy for a few minutes. Toney will then either tap out or be be submitted due to his own exhaustion.

Hope not of course, hope he leathers Couture`s mush with a lightning jab and uppercut. Not gonna happen though.

I actually want to see Toney beaten up. Whilst he's a character in terms of quotes, he's disrespectful, homophobic and racist.

I much prefer boxing to cagefighting, but Couture is a true athlete, trains hard etc.

Also I wonder if a Toney win would get more boxers to try the crossover; and I'm not sure that's a good thing.

I'd like it if Toney gets thrown about a bit and gets up for a highlight film KO that enhances both sports, teaches James some manners and the importance of training and shows that you can't put muscle on a chin. (It'd be good as well if James' fat arse split his shorts so next time out he did a bit on the rowing machine) :)

I remember watching a tito ortiz (ex top MMAist) training session on tv and mike tyson came along to watch him, afterwards the interviewer said to tito something like does mike give you any tips and tito whilst stood next to tyson said "mike is the greatest boxer in the world he'd beat me easily in a boxing ring, but put him in a cage and i'd destroy him in 30 seconds". Mike tyson didnt say jack didnt even look pissed off so im guessing he agreed. And lets face it he's far more deadly than toney.

James Toney is a legend, albeit a fat one these days, but I obviously hope he somehow wins. Don't know much about UFC other than it sounds like the odds are against him winning, and the other guy is known as an all time great of UFC, and has been knocked out 5 times ?

so many ways to lose in MMA that very few fighters have unbeaten records, Toney has a punchers chance in this but once they get in wrestling range he has lost the fight

i agree with manchester massive we share a gym with some mma fighters and there boxing skills are pretty limited but once they take you down to the mat its a whole new ball game toneys only chance is early as soon as randy takes him down hes got zero chance of winning i think randy wins in 1 round by submission or ground and pound im looking forward to it im a bit of a closet ufc fan :box:

i think he'll be a hard person to stop in all honesty. i think couture need's to spark him or ground & pound him as a submission is weak.

Are you trying to say couture is bad at submissions?!!! or are you saying submissions are boring.
