Best Journeyman
Re: Best Journeyman
Micky Ward had a lot of losses and was fed the likes of Augustus, Mayweather and co.. He was brought over here to get Jimmy Neary opened up to the the US market but it went slightly wrong that night..
Ward was a good fighter although I feel the best journeyman of all time must go to Emmanuel Augustus....
Re: Best Journeyman
Anyone seen that programme about tony booth really interesting he's a funny guy perfect for the job he was doing never took it too seriously but in the documentary they said that came towards the back end of his career. A definite watch for any boxing fan. legend!!!

Top bloke as well.
He gave a prime Robert McCraken a decent argument for the British title too.

I alway liked David Jaco for some reason....I think because he doesn't look like a fighter and also faced the top heavies coming up (and got blown out of course). Wasn't his son a prospect? What happened to him?

Re: Best Journeyman
Good point! But seriously it was the asthma that beat Razor, Jaco would never have done it legitimately!TerribleTerry wrote:He did beat an asthmatic Razor Ruddock though!reggaereggae wrote:I alway liked David Jaco for some reason....I think because he doesn't look like a fighter and also faced the top heavies coming up (and got blown out of course). johnny greaves is a lot better than his record say's
Re: Best Journeyman
Buck Smith was a brilliant journeyman boxer who upset the apple cart more than once; he knew how to fight, was always in good condition, always gave his best and came to win.

Re: Best Journeyman
Danni Peret isn't a bad Journeyman for the Heavyweights. He did beat Larry Olubamiwo by 2 rounds
Re: Best Journeyman
Daniel Peret is an absoloutly awful boxer! Don't know how he beat Larry? Everyother fight I've seen him in he's been dreadful - I'm sure he'll make more trips to this shore to stand there look fat and get beaten up!!!
Re: Best Journeyman
Billy Waith was the best journeyman of my era.
Re: Best Journeyman
Ray Fallone was another decent centurion. Waith is an excellent call, Bennie
Re: Best Journeyman
Dean Bramhald was another who would get in against just about anyone, anywhere. He really knew his way about and made boxing work for him.

Freddie Pendleton turned his career around to snatch the IBF lightweight strap.Old bones Ian wrote:What about journeymen that became champs,
He was far better than his record suggested.
Re: Best Journeyman
Carl Allen - and although he wasn't a 'journeyman' as such - how about Alex Penarski?!
Re: Best Journeyman
Jeff Thomas wrote:Carl Allen had draws with Lee Meager, Colin Toohey and Dave Stewart and wins over Baz Carey and Dazzo Williams. He gave Tyrone Nurse a better fight then anyone else i've seen- he also floored Gavin Rees.
All time- i'd say Paul Wesley. Life and death with Glenn Catley knock out wins over Neville Brown and Paul 'Silky' Jones- in between losing fights to guys with 1-0 records. Class.
he never drew with Dave Stewart.... Stewart beat him 60-54

I must have seen Spitko fight a dozen times and he has never given less than 100%, he's one of my favourites...very durable too.

In the words of Robin Reid...'never piss a journyman off!'
Britain's 'produced' some great journeymen over the years my favourite like most was Tony Booth...remember on the Calzaghe-Manfredo bill when he was clowning big del boy in front of a packed millenium stadium.
The 2 Smith brothers Ernie (God rest his soul) was a credit to the sport and Billy whose had over 100 now I think. Ojay Abrahams was always entertaining other good solid guys like Brian Coleman, Kristian Laight and Johnny Greaves are miles better than their records suggest!
Christian Solano and Cristian Favela both from 'drug capital' of the world Sinaloa are 2 of the best journeymen in the business. Solano's fought some good fighters including Chavez jr, John O donnell and Saul Alvarez one after another almost decapitating O donnell in a 2 round demolition job.
Favela is a tough mofo never been stopped giving guys like Roman Martinez, David Diaz and Steve Luevano a decent argument on little notice...even holds a win over former champion Willie Jorrin!
The BBBoC or a promoter should organise a 'journeyman' tournament with a Prizefighter or Super 6 format!
