Buchanan, Conteh and even Honeyghan(not as much as he deserved)had respect from the USA but how well respected was Turpin and Winstone??
Winstone was a brilliant boxer who gave the great Vincinte Saldivar his hardest fights when he was at his peak... people who know their boxing in the USA will have a lot of respect for him. Turpin gave Robinson hell in two fights when Robinson was still close to his best, the fact that he burnt out quickly doesn't change the fact that at his short but brilliant peak Randy would have been a test for any of the top middles, he was a magnificent fighter and not overrated at all imo... if anything I'd say Turpin is underrated today as many seem just to concentrate on the negative side of his life and career and overlook just how great he was.
Conteh was a brilliant box-fighter who could have dominated the division but went off the rails, but still had the ability to give Saad Muhammad a great fight even when supposedly over the hill and fighting more or less with one hand.
