Unfortunately Joshua Temple has drawn world champion Leinier Perot in his first bout.Perot is considered the best heavyweight in Cuba, senior or youth.

Leinier Perot defeated Joshua Temple 11-2 and will now meet Russian Ivanov in the 5th/6th place boxoff.
Ryan Burnett from Ireland won his bout but world champion Joe Ward was beaten by Australian Damian Hooper at middleweight
All three Russians lost their bouts and in a big shock Azebajani World champion was beaten at 114 by Egyptian Heshan Abdelaai.
Pan americans did well on the first day with the following now in the semis.
Emanuel Rodriguez
Robey Ramirez
Fabian Maldana
David Lourencio
Iosvani Duvergei
Leinier Perot
Samuel Zapata

Joshua Temple lost his consolation (for 5th place) bout against the Russian boxer by RSC-1. Here is the info from AIBA's website:

"Russia's Alexander Ivanov also stopped his opponent in the first round, but it looked a tougher bout. Ivanov was leading against his American opponent 5-3 when a second eight count caused the referee to stop the contest - although the American's seconds had a different opinion."

I was hoping that he would win a couple of bouts as he was the only USA boxer at the Youth Olympics.

I presume most of these guys will be looking to 2012?

Anyone see any future stars amongst these guys?

The three cubans are really special but the Olympics may come too soon,of the three Perot is the most advanced and he is the only one to be the best in Cuba at any age.Duvergei must get past senior Julio Cesar da Cruz first,Cruz has always beaten Duvergei.
Ramirez may need a couple of years yet but all three if they keep fit and healthy may well strike gold in 2016.
Watch out also for Oleg Nekyludov, the Ukrainian was under par in the Olympics and is already being compared to Lomachenko.Joe Ward is another to look for,the Irish lad suffered a hand injury during the Olympics but is the World Youth and Junior champion and is destined to be a lightheavy by 2012.Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rodriguez is improving all the time and future bouts against Ramirez look intriguing.

Brilliant, thank you for an interesting insite.

Was just wondering/imaging the next wave of Cubans who could go pro but seems we're several years away from this lot going pro.
