Remove Wins Against Ali From Norton And Frazier's Record

Post by jab2010 »

If you remove wins against Ali from Joe Frazier's record he is 1-4 against IBHOF fighters and Ken Norton is 0-4 against IBHOF fighters.

Fighting Ali was a grear career move for these gentlemen.

Fair enough, buy why remove their wins against Ali? Those were great achievements.

I think the win-loss record for Norton and Frazier are a little decieving.
If you are going to not count their wins against Ali, you really should not count their losses against him.
That makes Frazier 1-2 (Though really he should get much credit for beating Foster who was a lightheavyweight). Norton would be 0-2.
Norton did get bombed out by Foreman but he gave Holmes a great fight.

You have to consider that both beat other good fighters. Frazier beat Bonavena, and Quarry twice. He also beat Bugner and Mathis. He also had wins over guys that were past their best but not shot like Machen, and Jones.

Norton beat Young and Quarry. The win over Bobick doesn't seem like much now, but he did blow out a guy who was considered a serious contender. He also had wins over fringe contenders like Henry Clark,Larry Middleton, Boone Kirkman, Lorenzo Zanon, and Ron Stander.

I would say that not counting Ali Frazier still had a very good career. Norton's wasn't as impressive but it was still respectable. Both were consistent.

If you rewatch Ali-Norton trilogy you'd rather think about removing wins (well, at least one win) against Norton from Ali's record.
