WBA Interim Super Lightweight Champion Marcos Maidana is taking the final stops to defend his crown next August 28 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he will take on former World Champion Demarcus Corley at the Luna Park Studium. Maidana has been at training camp for the last nine weeks in the province of Córdoba and had four different sparring partners, among them WBO #2 Cesar Cuenca.

“It’s been a great camp, so I am ready for the challenge. I respect Corley as he is a experienced and talented fighter. One of those who you cannot understimate nor make any mistakes. So I’m 100% focused on this fight,” Maidana said.
“Corley said it would be a war between Argentina and United States, so I prepared myself just for that, a war,” he added.
However, even if Maidana’s mind is focused on Corley at the moment he could not help getting annoyed after reading Freddie Roach’s comments on the web, where he said Amir Khan would easily beat Maidana, Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander on the same night.

“I think these people are nothing but hypocrites. It’s like they have one speech for the cameras and another one for the promoters. Everybody knows that Khan runned scared from me for the last year and they only go for opponents that cannot punch or lighter fighters. But when the have a camera or a mic in front of them, they shout that they would face me next,” Maidana commented.

“I say to Roach and Khan, stop lying to the boxing fans. I have no problem by going to England and knocking him out to bring home the other portion of the WBA title, which belong to me,” he concluded.

I'm a fan of Khan (in the ring), but it's impossible to disagree with anything Maidana says

As said. He admitted why he pulled out of the Bradley fight .. and also said he knew nothing of the `stepaside money`.

Its no longer a secret, myth or fantasy about Khan.
He and his people are running scared of any guys with a punch.

Just look at his shopping list of preffered opponents..

Marquez ... a beefed up featherweight
Katsidis .. a genuine lightweight

I cant see how salita was even a manditory, not only had he fought low level fighters he was completely out of his depth in the ring, to the point of stupid.

When khan was ko'd it was a flash ko he never recovered even when he got up, then got laid out. Salita actually got up didnt look that hurt but just couldnt throw any punches or take punches or move.

I agree with HOBB technically he has fought his manditory, even though it was a joke, so he should get to pick 2 or 3 fights afterwards to make his money, then be up against the manditory again after.

The brilliant-boxing Khan has consigned himself to a succession of non-punchers since he was blasted in under a minute by Colombian puncher Breidis Prescott in his native Lancashire two years ago, so a fight with the huge-punching Maidana never looked likely and one could even picture Khan’s American trainer Freddie Roach spouting one cynical excuse after another. However, Khan’s first mooted opponent for December was Mexico’s silky skilled Juan Manuel Marquez, who is now chasing a third showdown with Filipino great Manny Pacquiao, which does make sense. Maybe, just maybe, Khan really is going to risk his chin again.
Maidana was narrowly outscored by Ukrainian stylist Andreas Kotelnik early last year in a first crack at the WBA title, and Khan proceeded to dazzle the same man for the same title. However, styles make fights. Khan has the ability to outbox anyone who cannot bang, and Kotelnik falls into that category, but can he outbox the punchers? Prescott jumped on him and dumped him twice before it was halted. It could have been stopped after the first knockdown, given the way Khan fell, his whole body limp. Khan showed guts to beat the count but you knew he was never going to get through the round. Prescott hurt him every time he hit him.
Interestingly, the quick knockouts are not the damaging defeats in boxing, the wear-you-down stoppages do far more damage, which is why Khan was able to come back swiftly and shrewdly with a cuts win over Marcos Antonio Barrera and then a clear decision over Kotelnik in July last year. It meant the 23-year-old Bolton boy was crowned world champion less than a year after Prescott, who has done nothing by comparison. It was some transformation.
Khan, 23-1 (17), has since retained the belt against two Brooklyn kids who cannot break an egg, and Maidana is overdue a crack because he holds the WBA interim title, which to you and me, if not to the man in the street, makes him the mandatory challenger. The 27-year-old Argentine earned his position last year when he climbed off the floor to bust up and stop "Vicious" Victor Ortiz in six thrilling rounds in Los Angeles. Maidana used a big right hand to get himself out of jail but it was shaky stuff and one gets the distinct impression that Team Ortiz, who also happen to be Team Khan, was trying to bump off Maidana in his US debut. They failed, and Maidana, 28-1 (27), has since won two more fights in less troublesome fashion, including a six-round knockout of the previously unbeaten Victor Manuel Cayo in Las Vegas earlier this year. Team Khan was running out of places to hide.
The only man to take stocky Marcos the distance, incidentally, is his fellow countryman Daniel Carriqueo in a six-rounder back in 2005. The challenger’s last 18 wins have come by knockout or stoppages, 14 of them inside three rounds. While we shouldn’t overlook the fact that Khan, a huge light-welterweight, can whack a bit himself, which is a point worth making after Maidana-Ortiz, and is much the better boxer of the two, much the quicker, this showdown all boils down to Khan’s chin and how well he takes Maidana’s blows.
Of course, a lot can happen between now and December and Khan-Maidana sounds almost too good to be true, but surely Khan has to face a puncher one day, so why not sooner rather than later. It would certainly earn him much-needed respect here.

This is the fight I wanna see, if Khan can deal with Maidana for 12 rounds then he's going to be unstoppable.

It's time to see how the new look Khan deals with a proper challenge. Personally I think the new-look Roach-inspired Khan has got what it takes to keep his chin out of harms way and possibly even stop Maidana. It's a fascinating clash of styles

Khan will be very hard to beat due to his speed and athletic ability.Couple that with a Roach gameplan and it wont matter about his chin,nobobody will get near it.

I too would fancy Khan to outpoint Maidana.

But if Prescott had Khans legs turning to jelly with a jab ... the world class punching of Maidana will make the fight highly dangerous as long as it lasts.

I believe thats the worry with team Khan .... he no doubt has the skills to confuse and make Maidana look even more crude than what he is already .... but it will only take one `lucky` punch to demolish Khan again.

did i say paulie was mandatory? i said salita was, so your saying 2 of the first 3 defences of a title you HAVE to fight 2 mandatory's? dog shite mate! since when does anybody face mandatory's anymore? froch didn't fight 1 mandatory in his 3! since when has mayweather..marquez..pacman?

well they have a similar ko ratio, almost identical, khan showed he cna punch against salita.

I think Ortiz hits harder than Khan, but Khan has still decent pop and his tremendous speed allows him to connect with clean shots fairly regularly. Repetitive clean shots from a decent puncher will wear down almost any fighter at some point. Maidana is easy to hit, and I'm sure Khan can stop him if he really turns it on. I have always favored Khan by stoppage against Maidana. Maidana can punch, but he is so limited, and I don't believe he is some sort of unusually durable ironman.
