Andy Lee to fight 2 fights in 2 weeks

Post by dutchie »

Andy Lee is down to fight Michael Walker on 17/09/10 in illinois and an unnamed opponent on 02/10/10 in indiana, this seems very strange for a top ranked boxer to box 2 top ranked fights in quick succession or will the first one be cancelled to make way for the bigger one in october.

Lee's tour of the tank towns makes desperate reading. Rumour has it that Huckleberry Finn is contemplating a comeback to face him.

On paper Affif Belghecham is his best opponent. I didn't see that fight but apparently he was in trouble near/at the end.

I saw his loss to Vera. He started well but seemed to fall apart. It's like any intelligence went out of the window. He seemed clueless how to find a way to cope.

I also saw his fight afterwards, to Willie Gibbs, and Lee looked vulnerable in that fight. Gibbs was a good puncher, and Lee was coming of the knockout loss, so it's understandable.

So those are his top 3 opponents. As far as how good he is, he's just below World class, imo. He's currently a legitimate top 20 middleweight. I think he has potential, but there seems to be something (mentality) missing. Very nice fluid boxer though. I like to watch his fights.

I was at the gibbs fight and it was by far his best performance, completely owned gibbs that night. Gibbs cracked lee with massive overhand rights in the 10th round that would of put the likes of Jacobs , Guerrero to sleep. I could actually hear the the punches land through the roars of the the loudest limerick crowd every in the UL i ever seen. When gibbs finally closed the distance in the 10th and landed his big rights lee took them very well and went straight back to work knocking him out gibbs in the end himself...
Lees chin cant be questioned ive seen him up close get cracked hard and he is much tougher than he looks.
He fights in a different way since his loss to vera which is understandable imo. He fights off the backfoot rather than trying to steam roll his opponents prior to the loss. It might not to be to everyones taste but its his career thats at stake so he has to do what every it takes to win even it seems he has the power to ko the likes of Belghecham (which he did imo) he cant take the risk of gassing to get the flashy ko that every fan wants to see.

Lee has a big weakness and it is his stamina it let him down in the vera fight and it was the very reason he got tagged good by Belghecham in the final 10 seconds after beating him for 9 1/2 rounds with classy boxing and movement.

I read somewhere that hes got himself a conditioning coach since the belghecham fight so maybe that problem might get fixed i hope.......

I'll put your out of your misery, he is aiming for a punt at Felix Sturm, who he believes is rusty.

Either that, or he is aiming for breaking his personal record and going for 3 bums in 2 weeks.

I can believe the Sturm scenario, but fail to see how that tallies with these tank town matches?

Going after Sturm seems like a solid plan, until you realise Gennady Golovkin is in line for that belt (WBA). Sylvester is the guy to target, imo.

If Andy lee is afraid of Golovkin then he shouldnt be in the buisness. Golovkin is beatable from what ive seen of him , he really doesnt like body shots, they actually stop him in his tracks and if i a mere boxing fan can pick up on that then you can bet a top boxer and his team will also. Remember he was a brilliant amateur but in the pros he hasnt beaten no one.(It was Gardner and Greenidge that gave him trouble check it out on youtube)
He also hasnt done 10 rounds yet and please dont say because he knocked them out, his competition has been piss poor for a man with such a reputation.
