Haye + Harrison = £10 million

Post by jizzle »

So Barry's little boy reckons that the fight which is due to be signed is worth a whopping £10 million...

Either Haye/Booth/Hearn/Harrison/Mini-Me are absolutely riding SKY/HBO like £30 hooker or I am seriously underestimating how much fights in today's sport go for!

Does £10 million sound right to you lot?

Eddie Hearn strikes me as a bit of a bullshitter who is riding on his dads coat tails to be honest. I can't believe that the fight is worth anywhere near £10m. Maybe gross but certainly not net profit.

That said it is a fight I want to see. Sure it'll be one sided and we'll all probably come out and say what a farce it was after Haye wins early but it will be a fantastic promotion and build-up. The press conferences will be great, the media coverage will be relentless and the atmosphere on the day will be awesome.

Hearn will promote the arse out of it, they will be earning fortunes the pair of them, thats why it always had to happen, Klitschko will be next year but this is David's pension fund.

They will be appearing all over the place for ridiculous fees to promote the fight, good luck to them, interests me to see if Audley has the nerve to throw a punch, if he does, it could be very interesting.

Think the reason Audley is making the statements today is purely part of the game, Haye will come out and say he is taking the fight to shut Harrison up once and for all and to remove him from the British fight scene blah blah blah.

Could not have worked out better for Haye really, Adamek looking average on Saturday night and getting two nasty cuts, he can't possibly take the fight, Valuev having surgery and then retiring, he can't take the fight, both Klitschko's fighting later in the year also, only left Chagaev and he will brush over that one.

You can almost hear the what was I supposed to do line, so the answer to your question is yes it probably is worth somewhere close to the figure quoted

How many PPV buys did Haye-Valuev sell? around 800,000? if Haye-Audley can do the same (I see no reason why not) then that's a large % of the £10m, plus about 8,000 tickets

It's a shame this is being held in Manchester as while I think the atmosphere at the MEN is great these are two London fighters and a venue in London would have been excellent. I believe the O2 Arena is unavailable on the 13th November and I guess an outdoor arena couldn't be used with the weather and the football season being on.

Anyone planning to go to the fight? I may go with a couple of mates.

Apparently. That's just UK figures though, I don't think it aired elsewhere on PPV so kinda moot really.

I think it's almost certain yes. I know that the O2 is not available and I can't think of another indoor arena in London which would have the capacity to hold it. Living in London this is a bit annoying but could be a good lads trip.

How much would the excel hold if 2 of their hangers were to be joined - around 10,000? I think, although might be wrong, that they did this for Williams Vs Harrison?

Saying that, I don't see anything other than a sell-out at the MEN. This fight will shift tickets big time. :box:

Both are good talkers, and prone to boasting a lot. The fight will be huge in the UK - it will be in the papers every day in the month leading up top the fight.

It is an easy sell to the everyday public.

in my humble ill informed opinion..... this fight is a more dangerous one for haye than a return with valuev or a fight with rahman et al.

saying that, all haye has to negate is audleys straight left hand, that is all harisson has in his locker, there is no other threat.

If that is an accurate figure, I find it staggering. That would equate to almost 1/10 of all Sky subscribers buying the PPV. Surely not.
Haye got £5 from each PPV, which netted him just under 5 million, I don't see what's that unbelievable about it? He's got a deal with SKY, so he promotes the crap out of it. It's what he does. Ruiz did less, but not too many people were overly enamoured with the match and it didn't have the David and goliath angle they kept pushing.

Be interested to know if that includes Pub PPVs and do these count as say 50/100 people?

Was shocked to see a sign outside my local pub (frequented by yummy mummies and barber jacket wearing city types) advertising 'David Vs Goliath' - shows just how it captured the country's imagination - maybe the Pub trade pushed this up to the figure suggested?

I don't know for sure how they work the figures out but when two respected/trusted newspapers publish the figure you know it isn't made up the way some figures are banded about.

SKY are a bit secretive about releasing PPV figures but they sold the hell out of it and you know it's gone into the general public's conscious when non boxing fans ask you about it/talk about it etc.

The US PPV figures are usually highly "adjusted".

I'm with Machoman on this one and I'm sorry, but as someone who has worked in the trade, the fact the newspapers published the figures is no guarantee of their accuracy.

Haye needs a fight and Harrison is availble. Both fighters know it will make them a large amount of cash but both will use the fight for different reasons. Haye will use it as a warm up fight to bigger and better things whilst Harrison will hope for a miracle knock out that will shoot him into the big money league.

Im looking forward to it :TU:

I have no idea to be frank, but returning to my original point, it's also worth noting that the key phrase in one of the newspaper reports you referenced was "may have" - hardly categorical proof.

The day after the fight, the word was that it had done huge, unexpected numbers having really caught the imagination of the British public in fight week. Sky apparently had to draft in extra staff after being caught on the hop.

Hatton sold 1.1 million for his Mayweather fight at daft o'clock so a charismatic, good looking Brit going abroad to fight a 7ft freak for 'the heavyweight championship of the world' at a decent hour could have sold 800k.

10 million sounds about right i think they would do better having a bigger arena though. Haye ruiz did 22,000 seats - harrison haye could easily do 35 / 40 thousand seats.
