Diuran was a great fighter, but I can't rate him any higher than 3rd alltime at Light Weight. No way I'd have him above Henry Armstrong or Benny Leonard at that weight. Still, 3rd or 4th or 5th is pretty outstanding when you consider that division.

Absolutely --- & there are plenty of people who would scream murder at the sight of you ranking Duran third. He just is in no way good enough to get so much more credit than the other great 135lbers. as he does.

When you've got a guy who is well-&-truly in the mix with the other greats, but receives twenty times the recognition, praise, & favouritism --- yes, he is over-rated.

If someone like Ike Williams had moved up and almost beaten Sugar Ray Robinson at middleweight, would you call Ike overrated?

If Ike Williams, as good as he was, received twenty times the recognition of Duran, Leonard, & every other great Lightweight in history, I would call him over-rated.

Thats the point, in over 70 fights at lightweight he lost once, which he avenged twice. Lightweight was his division, he moved up to welter and middle and fought the best at those weights, he beat one and gave the other a good run for his money.

Apart from Esteban all his losses were at weights that weren't his best. You could slag Bob Foster off for similar losses when he moved up in weight, the fact was light-heavy was the best division for him.

I agree that there are many over zealous Duran fans but at lightweight he was frightening opposition.

He was always frightening opposition, only at the very end did he embarass himself.
He offended everybody including his fans with the "No Mas" thing, but Duran was a little crazy.
All the greats are a little crazy, even the ones who you think are normal.
Duran is a true all-timer, one of the ten best to enter a ring at any weight, my opinion.
And for the record, Ike Williams is equal to any lightweight, Duran, Benny Leonard included.
