Name some one punch knockout artists

Post by Controversial »

Following on from the other thread about underrated punchers just taking that on a step with fighters who ended fights with one punch. Foreman is rated as being one of, if not the hardest puncher ever but not many of his fights ended with one punch. He battered and clubbed more fighters than he cleanly sparked out.

The name Pat Barrett was mentioned on the other underrated punchers thread, not a world class fighter but many of his fights ended with him flattening someone with one punch. Julian Jackson is another obvious choice.

Who are some of your favourites or less obvious choices?

I wouldn't class Marciano as a one punch ko artist. Apart from Walcott he mainly wore fighters down. Charles, Moore and Cockell were pounded into defeat.

His right cross (when it lands) is deadly. I was half-asleep during his fight w/Chambers, but, I was incredibly shocked at how badly he took out Chambers in the 12th.
Now tell us how many one-punch KO's he's scored, even allowing for this putrid division.

He's a better puncher than his brother (a better fighter, too, I insist), but if we're talking fellas like Hearns, Jenkins (I see Pug beat me to that particular punch), Foreman & co, Klitschko hardly belongs.

Being a one-punch knockout artist & having one-punch knockout power are not the same thing (not that I believe he has legitimate one-punch KO power).

Bob Foster was a bonafide one punch knockout artist.

I would agree, you can even argue that coming into the fatal 13th an accumulation of punishment on aged and worn Walcott was a factor in his stoppage despite being a single blow that put him out.

Very true but Layne, Matthews amd Walcott might have different opinions. All three were out before they hit the floor.

Saddler
Olivares
Gomez
Arguello
Galaxy
Zarate

Some mentioned more than others

I like Foster, the left hook especially - a very spiteful punch that whipped in.

Of course Rocky had a few one punch wins, lots of fighters do, but I don't think he was in the same league as someone like Jackson.

Ezzard Charles combined good power with impeccable technique and timing.

Jersey Joe Walcott - a boxer with a left hook that had 'Goodnight' written on it.

Dempsey
