For me I have been really busy with my fight film viewing. I have been watching

Wladimir K v Lamon Brewster I: I had Wladimir K ahead by about 2 or 3 rounds before Brewster nailed him.
Vitali K v Chris Byrd: I had Vitali on a shut out until his shoulder went.
Mike Tyson v Bruce Seldon: Had Tyson on a 10-8 round until he dropped Seldon for the 2nd and final time.
Mike Tyson v Norris. Utter farce that was
Mike Tyson v Lou Savarese that was a wild one.

Currently on Sugar Shane Mosley v Antonio Margarito.

What amazes me in the Brewster fight is just how aggressive Wlad is, he shows more fire and nuts in those first 3 rounds than he has in his last 5-6 fights combined.

I don't think I can ever watch the Rumble In The Jungle again. ESPN played it at least 1,000,000 times and to be honest the even and significance of the win far outweigh the action. It's a dust collector in my collection with the likes of Tua/Ibeabuchi. My vote for the two most overrated fights.

I watched Morales/Alfaro again this morning on Fox. Fun fight. I'm interested in seeing Erik again in September. The stories of his complete demise were always exaggerated and I am one of the few that would look forward to a fight with Marquez.

Back in the 80s I'd never seen the fight but read so much about it. I actually bought the VHS version the day it hit the stores in the UK. Got to say the reports were better than the fight. OR perhaps the fight couldn't live up to what I'd built it up to be in my own mind.

Ali seemed in control and Foreman barely laned a solid punch. He hit Ali but the shots were always muffled and smothered.

I'd been relating boxing stories to my kids and had told them about rope-a-dope and they wanted to see it so I put it on. Watching it again I could see that Foreman was hammering the body pretty well and Ali was hurt.

My son is 9 years old. Don't want to start the usual pro/anti Ali cr@p but he said to me after the end, "Dad, why didn't they count the full ten seconds?"

I have watched James Toney fight against Evander Holyfield had Toney 79-74 up going into the 9th and now I have got Nigel Benn v Gerald McCellan on, as I read and have heard about this fight so I am now seeing it for myself.

Latest batch featured some early Danny Williams stuff, his rematch v Julius Francis which was a good knockout and his more dramatic one against Mark Potter for the British and Commonwealth belts in 2000 when his shoulder went. Currently watching a bit of Prince Naz. he gave us plenty to watch and talk about.

Tua vs Barrett. I called it a draw, but I could make an easier case for Barrett just on how surprising his performance was and how disappointing Tua's was.

But point for point I agree with those who called it even. I differed with the announcer on a two of the middle rounds. I think they caught up in expectations vs performance.

But Tua going down and getting hurt was so unexpected. Almost wanted to hand it to Barrett for that alone. Can't explain the one judge that had Tua well ahead.

I watched Wladimir K (again) fighting Samuel Peter in their second fight had Wladmir K 8 rounds up going into the 10th before knocking out Samuel Peter and before that Erik Morales v Willie Limond. Limond was doing quite well but Morales was starting to come back before slicing Limond in half with those two body shots, plus most of the stuff on ESPN Classic at the moment which is good.

Watched Ringside earlier and decided to watch Bowe Holyfield I, only seen it once before.

I had it 116-111 for Bowe. Great fight, round 10 was fantastic.

Shane Mosley v Demetrio Ceballos from 1998.
Very entertaining, good stuff from young Mosley, I will be keeping an eye on this kid, he's going places.
Good performance also by the HBO commentary team of RJJ and Merchant. Both guys seemed like different people in the absence of Jim Lampley and were actually a pleasure to listen to.
Why did Barry Tompkins go? Lampley is a dick who tries to drags his colleagues down to his own level of immature cheerleading.

Bowe vs Holyfield II.

Like Rocky but with real boxing in it. I watched it live many many moons ago, & I gotta say it was even better than I remember it. Evander's footwork... His jab! The combinations... 'kin' 'ell. That particular Real Deal (with Steward in his corner) would've made Wlad his bitch, jab & grab version or suicidal three-round fighter version.

No words for the Fan Man thing. I forgot how the crowd tore into him, though. That was nice.

Also: I think the first fight is what took it all out of Bowe (well, that & getting nailed so often in this one) in an all-time great sense. There's a technical drop-off that I don't think you can totally put down to the kerr-ayyy-zeee weight fluctuations & being a fat-arse. I've always tied his technical decline to his physical diminishment, & assumed Andrszej took whatever he had left by kicking the shit out of him, but now I am beginning to suspect Evander really did punch something out of him in those two November fights.

I shall now have to go dig out more Bowe videos to see if my theory holds any water.

Rocky Graziano-Gene Burton

Burton puts on a superb performance in the early rounds but per usual the natural welter gets worn down by Graziano's pressure and power. I will say this about Graziano . . he would throw complete crap, molasses punches a lot of the time but every now and then really zing in with a very fast haymaker. Would be very hard to fight a guy like that over the long haul as you'd get complacent and then BOOM, you are seeing stars.
