Skelton favorite over Danny Williams!???
Skelton favorite over Danny Williams!???
I thought Williams is suppose to be favorite. What do you guys think?
I haven't seen any odds for this fight yet. I would suspect that Williams might start a slight favourite given his edge in championship experience.
Incidently, William hill make Graham Earl the favourite in his match vs Kevin Bennett. I was a tad surprised with this, given the form of the two fighters.

the orignal poster was right heres what was posted on a betting site :
One bookmaker has made Skelton a 1/2 shot with Williams at 17/10.
I'd personally make Williams a 1/3 shot - and I don't think he's a bad 1/3 shot.
Skelton is massively overrated imo. He's nearing 40 and has spent most of his career in K1. From what I have seen so far he spends the first half of every fight mauling and leaning on his opponents and basically smothering them. Sky havebent over backwrds trying to build him up. He tires rapidly and Williams should have rounds 6-12 no problem.
Williams will have far too much experience and won't be intimidated by Skelton's wrestling tactics - Williams is a big man, he weighed in at over 19 stone before being totally outclassed against Klitschko.
Don't forget Williams stood up to Tyson's huge shots - he won't be stopped by a single shot and if he is motivated will have too much stamina and power - Williams can dig pretty hard and is the best out there at British level.
Fill your boots on this one. Williams all the way.
Also stus right, earl big fav with hills odd are :
Graham Earl ( Gbr ) 4/9 v Kevin Bennett ( Gbr ) 13/8
also thats the same odds for harrion brodie
some intresting prices there chance for us guys to make some cash??

There should be a menu close by at the top of the screen or column where you can change it from 'decimal' to 'fractional' oddsstujones wrote:Bigped,
How do you do the betting conversion - Hill's website has it looking like this
1.44 Earl Bennett 2.62
How do you convert that to "normal" odds i.e. 4/9 13/8 etc.

Bring up calculator in windows.
type in the number (1.44)
Press the (+) button once. Count how many times you have to press (=) until you get a whole number.
You'll have to press it 24 times. (add 1 to this number to get 25)
The whole number you get on the calculator will be 36.
36/25 are the odds.

I can, still favour Williams - but I do give Skelton a chance. In Samil Sam, Williams (IMO) lost to a lesser of a puncher and certainly somone not a strong as Matt.DavidPayne wrote:I think Williams is easy money in this fight.
I cant see how Skelton beats him.
Williams has also been hurt by Mark Potter and especially Michael Sprott, both of whom a DEFINATELY lesser punchers than Skelton.
He could get bashed around. You don't have to be a pretty fighter to beat him.

I haven't seen Skelton the puncher yet.
I've seen the marauding, overhwelming strong man - but I dont think he's a knockout artist and given the shellacking Williams took and shook off against Tyson and Vitaly I dont think its a factor.
I wont to know what happens when Skelton keeps getting twatted with left-right on the way in, and when he tries to throw an equally big man around.
Lets not forget Williams is a physical monster.
I'm not saying Williams is the new George Foreman and I'm not trying to demean Skelton achievements but come on.
Surely this a straight forward win for a motivated and fit Williams. Surely.
And for him to be the underdog, I would say, on balance is a give away.

The men who have beaten him, Francis, Vitali, Sprott and Sam, were all superior to Skelton, who is neither a puncher, nor a good technical boxer. Sprott beat Williams, but he beat him with skills, and in all honesty, did he really deserve that verdict, I didn't think so, I thought Williams boxed his ears off, and god punished for his clowning.
Crazy as it might sound, the fight with Vitali in some ways might be a bonus mentally. That was about as bad a beating as someone can get in the ring, and Skelton is going to seem like a pussycat by comparison to the giant and incessantly punching Ukranian. Skelton's great fly-swatting punches aren't going to be anywhere near as hard to avoid, and he doesn't have the handspeed of Vitali, who is deceptively quick for a big man.
Provided he isn't mentally and physically shot, I make Williams a favourite to win.
I do hope this fight isn't a letdown, I'm looking forward to this.

Williams chin is a factor when a few refs might have stopped the Klitchsko fight in the first round and I geniunally believe that the knee injury cost Tyson a first round KO win.DavidPayne wrote:I haven't seen Skelton the puncher yet.

Skelton's punch might have been overated but to say his strength/power isn't a factor is wrong when at times Williams was bullied by Michael Sprott who couldn't keep Skelton at bay.
I agree a huge question is what happens when Williams' tags him when he is coming in. I had that question when Williams fought Klitchsko. However, what happens if Skelton does a Klitchsko and can walk down those shots - Williams is in trouble, because he has been hit and hurt by definate lesser punchers.
James, how can you say Sprott is superior to Skelton - who the F won that fight by a KO.

Sprott can punch, he's a cleaner puncher and has faster hands than Skelton.stujones wrote:I can, still favour Williams - but I do give Skelton a chance. Williams is definetly a bigger puncher than Skelton. He blasted Juliuis Francis in their 2nd fight, and has battered Sprott in two fights.
Samil Sam is a bigger puncher too, and technically better than Skelton. I would say that Francis in his prime was better technically too.
I see Williams pondering too much and Skelton simply mauling and pummeling through him, like Skelton did v. Sprott.
Williams may have the better skills but I feel that Skelton is a tad more hungry as a fighter and has not hd the beating that Williams took as well.
I think itll be Skelton UD and may not be the most satifying fight with Williams competitve and having his moments.

Looking at the results like that is like looking at most unbeaten records: doesn't tell the whole story.nickd wrote:You forgotTantum wrote:Skelton TKO6 Moli

Strange to see people so confident about Danny Williams. I've lost count the number of times Danny has been touted as a sure thing, only to un-impress on fight night. Come on, think back to all the build ups we've(?) watched during his career.
Let's look at those results though:
Skelton TKO6 Moli (irrelevent, farce)
Wladimir KO1 Moli (irrelevent, Wlad is/was world class - neither Skelton or Williams is, plus Moli looked like he dived)
Skelton KO12 Sprott (legit grinddown win makes Sprott effectively quit)
Williams TKO5 Sprott (foul filled performance by Williams, who after hitting Sprott low chins him out cold - this is what really prompted the third meeting for those who don't know)
Sanders KO1 Sprott (irrelevent, it's Sanders, the often mentally fragile Sprott was out his depth)
Skelton PTS10 Francis (ugly fight against snarling Francis who didn't do a whole lot of punching)
Vitali KO2 Francis (irrelevent, Vitali is generally regarded as #1 heavy)
Ruiz KO5 Francis (irrelevent, Ruiz is world class)
Williams TKO4 Francis (again, like the second Sprott fight, we get an unclean knockout with Francis going down from a scratched eye - know how sore that is?)
Sprott W12 Williams (Sprott exposes the mental fragility of a clowning Williams, Danny might have nicked it on the scorecards, but it was a pathetic performance considering the hype he was getting before it. Agreed with Dave Parris at the time (on here) and still do)
Francis W12 Williams (haven't seen it since it happened, but I remember thinking the verdict was legit - also remember thinking immediately after this one Williams wouldn't go above domestic class - and it looks like that's the case now)
Williams also had some shaky moments versus Mark Potter (his best performance/defining fight IMO - not Tyson), Keith Long, as well as getting destroyed by Samil Sam.
The one we have missed out is which should be compared is :Manos de Oro wrote:Looking at the results like that is like looking at most unbeaten records: doesn't tell the whole story.nickd wrote:You forgotTantum wrote:Skelton TKO6 Moli

both skelton and williams vs Bob Mirovic.
They both stopped them in 4th, skelton had a bit of a struggle if you ask me, williams took a few rounds to warm up then should his tremandous punching ability, i watched the fight the other day there, and with bob in that corner and williams with his gumshiled hanging out he really did look so vicious and powerful,
I think he hits way better ( more techinque, variety ect) and powerful than skelton, but just cant see skelton giving up, williams on points
