gary davies interview
Re: gary davies interview
Really enjoyed reading this piece as i myself work the same shift pattern and train as a part-time pro (was on the undercard when Gary won his title York Hall ). The long shifts and running after a 12 hrs on a production line. Waking up after the night shifts feeling flat and drained. Credit to you Gary keep it up m8 i know how you feel at times. All the best for your fights.
Re: gary davies interview
For me Jamie Mcdonnell is class! Garys been really inactive throughout his career he needs a bit of luck maybe? saying that hes lost three and been stopped twice. to be the best you have to beat the best, Hall will be a tough fight for Gary im sure he'll be prepared.

Re: gary davies interview
[quote="neil hibbert"]He is “massive at the weight”, is a fearless fighter, hits like a mule and can box a bit too, but, frustratingly, since turning over to the pro ranks Gary Davies has been hampered by inactivity. Some boxers will end their careers prematurely due to inactivity; many will become journeymen and others will struggle on in the hope of achieving their title ambitions.
These idiosyncrasies of the fight game, from the boxers perspective, are best illustrated by the immortal boxing line, written by Budd Schulberg, and uttered by Marlon Brando in the Academy Award winning motion picture ‘On the Waterfront’: “I could have been a contender”.
An aptitude for hype and psychological warfare are interrelated qualities that are only second to the dexterity of the pugilist. “I am not afraid to say it”, begins Gary Davies, “I am the biggest punching bantamweight in Britain. If I am fighting someone and they don’t hurt me, one of two things is going to happen. You are either getting knocked out or stopped”.
A quick glance at Davies' stuttering career reveals a ledger that is broadly in line with his claims. Since turning pro
i see the hall fight harder than the mc donnel fight its about time gary opened his mouth bring on 2010

Re: gary davies interview
Its great he has the confidence but i dont think he has the beatings of Jamie it would be a good fight for 4 or 5 rounds then Jamie would start taking over n personally i think he would stop him in the later rounds....... body shots!
He also wants to remember Bracco was a voluntry after Jamies great win in france he didnt seem to mention that win in his artical.
good fighter tho and should be a cracking fight when he fights hall.

Re: gary davies interview
What a load of complete and utter b*llocks about Jamie McDonnell avoiding everyone - and because of that I think the interview is complete and utter sh*t and loses any credibility it had!!!
Jamie Mcdonnell was merely fighting on the circuit until his chance came to fight Ian Napa on 22 Jan 2010 for the British and Commonwealth titles - the only reason why he got the chance was because it was thought he was a mere pushover and a nice defence for Napa - Unlucky he won.
Furthermore only 2 months later he then went onto fight Jerome Arnould for the European title in the fella's backyard - again McDonnell was meant to be there to make up the numbers - but unlucky again he won!!!
Then only 4 months later he had what most champions had a "nice" defence which he deserved against Rodrigo Bracco in Doncaster on 02 Jul 10 - McDonnell now has to fulfil his mandatories against deserving fighters which Davies has yet to prove he is!!!! - does he forget he had the chance against Ian Napa on 23 October 2009 - a fight which he failed to win despite it being a near "home" bout for him - so even with the crowd in his favour - he failed - yes failed to win.
Gary Davies last bout was against Andy Bell - a fighter who lost his two previous bouts - yet Davies is bleating he deserves his chance against the European Champion!!!! - unlucky young man!!! - if you go the hard route like McDonnell has then maybe just maybe when a voluntary defence comes around you might get a chance.

Re: gary davies interview
Enjoyed that, there's ways of getting a shot at a title and one is Shouting and slagging people off. You cant blame him for saying that about McD because it could get him a shot but first he has to get past Hall, which imo is a hard one, this is what we went to see good hard tough fights..
Just a couple of little bits-
I think Hall and Davis is Massive at the Weight, I bet both spar with much heavier opponents and look very strong but at the time of sparring i would'nt say there would be much differents in weight, i thought Davis died off against Napa in the later Rounds, one thing for sure if he gets hit by Hall the same way Napa hit him in the 11th its game over..
He has only fought once since, or is it because i done a better job on Edmonds
Just a couple of little bits-
Napa spings to mind which aint a Big Puncher at all, so thats quote of the window.neil hibbert wrote:An aptitude for hype and psychological warfare are interrelated qualities that are only second to the dexterity of the pugilist. “I am not afraid to say it”, begins Gary Davies, “I am the biggest punching bantamweight in Britain. I thought the same about Napa..neil hibbert wrote:“I thought Napa was winning the fight – I had Napa ahead by three rounds. When Napa said he was too hot to carry on – I was shocked to be honest because it was getting tasty - it started to warm up nicely, but for me Hall seemed to die in the middle rounds – maybe he is too big at the weight – I don’t know”.”

Did he then become a shot fighter after Davisneil hibbert wrote: “When I won the British Title I beat Matthew Edmonds and at the time he was a very good fighter ”

You really are a knob - look at the interview and its you who hasnt got your facts right - in it it quotes Gary stating McDonnell is avoiding him - what a joke - in your little world perhaps he is - but seen as he held no belts at all at the beginning of the year McDonnell is doing okay for himself.
Gary should show his fellow fighters some respect to state McDonnell has avoided anyone is complete and utter b*llocks - get Davies manager Steve Wood who is one of the best in the business to contact his good friend Frank Maloney to see if the fight can be made.
Incidentally what I also find incredibly disrespectful of Gary is he is slagging off McDonnell which is bad enough but he still has a fight with Hall - do you think he should concentrate on that fight before he does anything else - surely you dont want to give him too much to think about!!!

Re: gary davies interview
Gary gave a very good interview - honest, frank and open. Obviously frustrated at his stop-start career, especially considering the sacrifices boxers have to make with their time, diet and social life. The insights he gave into balancing a full time job and his training regime was a dose of reality to any young amateur who is thinking of turning over to the pro ranks. He went up in my estimation and good luck to him.

Gary is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet but is realising that a close mouth never gets fed (tm Anthony Small) and talking himself up will get printed. We were all proud of Gary when he became the British champion and are confident that he will regain his rightful throne.

Re: gary davies interview
Hello Carlos,
Been told Gary is a top man - never had a problem until I read the interview above - but lets be honest here Jamie McDonnell simply hasnt had time to avoid or "dodge" anyone as Gary puts it. If I were perfectly honest yep its also because Jamie is a Fight Academy fighter which also enticed me to attempt to have a ruck which are lacking around here at the minute
Jamie will fight anyone mainly because he wants to earn himself a few quid - if Team Davies had stopped to think just for a minute they would have realised one very important thing and that is they both fight for the same promoter at present becuase Jamie is also fighting for Frank Maloney and thus if Gary is that desperate to fight for Jamie's European title it could be easily arranged if Gary has the necessary rank within the European Governing body. But, as I have already pointed out I think Gary is being highly disrespectful of Stuey Hall as that fight still has to be won before Gary should start slagging off Jamie McDonnell.
As for the holiday jibe
