Do you have much of an amateur background Phil? At least you are getting in some decent rounds with tough domestic journeymen and not being matched against Eastern European 1st round jobs.philipgill wrote:What's your point? Well, the point is Phil, who else benefits from you fighting a guy who has won 6 out of 80 fights? The customer? The sport? You benefit of course because you get a definete win but now you understand why MMA is getting more popular by the hour.
All people want is a well matched fight where the other guy stands a chance of winning.

Yeah I had 42 amateur bouts boxed Anthony Ogogo, Eric Oching http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer, Glodi Eneste ranked in the top 15 in Europe in 2008 when we boxed at middle weight and many more top amateurs of note. I don't swerve a fight and will fight anyone but to progresses in the pro ranks it helps to keep that 0 in tact!
I can name may that have had easier starts than me with padded record of latvians that fall with the wind of a hook thats didn't land.

I'm not a huge spelling Nazi, but it's undefeated, not "undefetted".
Re: whos the boxer on itv now?
I think fair enough for a bit of experience but the point remains valid you haven't exactly been matched tough! You are 28 too, so one would expect them to start stepping you up a bit quicker in light of your amateur experience, you've either got it or you haven't at your age and if you have you better start making tracks is my view. Next fight = someone who is 0-7-0 !!!??! Sorry if that sounds harsh but I say it as I see it.

Your entitled to give your opinion. Is it not good management to earn your boxers as much money as you can once the '0' goes you can lose your appeal! Many times iv pushed for bigger fights I want to be in bigger fights but there is more to it than that. Im a young 28 in boxing i only started boxing in 2005. So Im far fresher than a 28 year old who started boxing at 8. Im just gonna keep winning and the big fights will happen.

Re: whos the boxer on itv now?
As a Promoter you can only put a boxer in a bout that a manager will accept. The home boxer sells the tickets and his reward is to be able to build a career.
As a promoter my job is to put on some competitive fights. Eg for my next show on 11th September its Lee Noble v Pat McAleese and Ryan Barrett v Mark Alexander with some competitive undercard bouts. There will be some bouts where I would call them non competitive.
What you must remember is that the manager has a duty to his boxer and the promoter has to go along with this or not put the boxer on their show. As I am not a manager I am just trying to put on a good show so I have to try and strike a balance.
I think there are too many managers out there who want 90/10 bouts whereas they should be taking 60/40's instead.
Phil I am sure knows he needs to step up quality within his next few bouts. He is managed by Micky Helliet who makes the decisions on his behalf. There are some really decent fights for Phil ahead.
I will continue to aim to put on a show where there are lost of really competitive bouts but I understand that boxers have to built up to get to the bigger fights. However I also really appreciate that MMA etc attract fans because of the evn matches they put on so i think boxing needs to strike a better balance.

Oh don't get me wrong Im not getting above myself thinking Im something that Im not but to the guys who buy my tickets I am. I just feel that if I had a loss maybe the fan base would dwindle. Listen mate you just carry on regardless of what people say this games bloody hard to get on in. I've seen you fight once and I didn't think you were matched easy. What people forget is these fighters that have had 50 and won 3 would have probably won a lot more if they were the ticket seller. Boxing is not always fair but like you say you need to sell tickets which is the hardest part and to do that you need to keep winning. I'm hoping to get to your show Steve on the 11th and Phil I'm sure you'll put on a show all the best to ya Phil prob see ya there. Gotta say tho mate your a terrible cook but then again that chick weren't all that anyway is have dished her up leathery beef aswell ha ha ha.
Re: whos the boxer on itv now?
It's true in white collar and its nearly as true in pro boxing - if you could sell out a venue on your own you'll never lose a fight.

Funny, your first post on here woody was 'I am a pro and I want people to take more interest in me' so - what people say (boxing fans) is important - even by your own admisson.iftkwoody wrote:Listen mate you just carry on regardless of what people say this games bloody hard to get on in. Phil,
Historically in this sport. Unbeaten records were always viewed with suspicion - we can back as far as Lamar Clark who was 76-0 with as many KO's and then he fought a decent journeyman in Archie McBride and was knocked out - and you know what - everyone knew at the time that was what was going to happen. Boxing fans are not stupid - we all know that the majority of the great fighters came onto their world title shots with all kinds of WDL ratios - it doesn't matter as long as you can perform at the level you are aiming for. A '0' at the end of your record is only important to you. My favourite fighter of all time - Najib Daho
lost something like 23 fights - if you achieved a fifth of what he did - you will have had a succesful career!
Re: whos the boxer on itv now?
This is where boxing is going wrong compared to MMA. Look at an average MMA fighter and they might have a record of say 10-6 or something like that. They don't mind defeats, all it means is they were probably in 16 very evenly matches fights where they learnt a load with each fight and the fans got to watch a decent scrap. Boxing is a different sport and it seems at the moment to be obsessed with 'unbeaten' records. I blame a certain big promoter with his padded record fighters.
I guess we can't blame you at all Phil, you are a small boxer without a big promoter and you are trying to get some kind of win record going. It's the sport of boxing in the UK (and in US these days) that needs to change its ways and stop trying to build records instead of building good fighters.

You cant just blame "a certain big promoter".I attend or watch fights of literally all levels and can be 99% sure who is going to win. They all do it.Why do you think we get so excited when a Simpson-$wifty comes along? Its rare to be genuinely intrigued, even in most televised main events.TheCobra wrote:This is where boxing is going wrong compared to MMA.
