Spoiler**** James Toney last night
Poor sod.
It all happened so predictably. Taken down instantly, dragged to the fence, pummeled, drained of energy and then submitted.
He looked exhausted just after he tapped.
The only chance a boxer has against a seasoned MMA fighter is come out swinging from the off, charge the MMA guy and not stop punching til the war is won.
If they wait, they will be taken down anyway and once down, it`s almost always gonna end in defeat.
Still, at least Toney had the balls to get into the cage and take his beating. He probably needed the dough.

Re: Spoiler**** James Toney last night
the fight went exactly how i thought it would like i said before we train alongside some good mma fighters and there boxing skills are not the best but once they get you on the floor its good night god bless
Re: Spoiler**** James Toney last night
This will be the outcome at least 95% of the time when an MMA bout takes place between an elite mixed martial artist and a pure boxer with extremely limited grappling experience. It was too predictable. I must say, I can see why Toney wanted to take the fight. He has definitely not been making $750,000 for his recent boxing matches. It was worth the embarassment.
Re: Spoiler**** James Toney last night
Yep,
there's so much more to MMA than what you think unless you understand it.
Toney hasn't done anything in our sport for years, he was never gonna learn enough in nine months to take on one of the best UFC fighters ever.
Two different sports.

Re: Spoiler**** James Toney last night
Toney was lucky he was in their with a "nice guy" in Couture (47 years old by the way)
Imagine if someone like a prime Vitor Belfort would have had Toney in those psoitions last night. He would have opened up and caused some serious damage.

Yes, RC took it easy on him. TONEY was too slow on his feet to aoid the takedown attempt. HE HUNG IN THERE THOUGH FOR AS LONG AS HE COULD.
Re: Spoiler**** James Toney last night
must be embarrassing for toney who has never been stopped as a boxer to have tapped out i.e given up.
so, UFC is just as capable of making cynical mismatches and novelty fights, the type of which boxing is ridiculed for.

Toney could give give a damn. HE WAS NEVER 'HURT' he just tapped out before he passed out, he was choked and no way he wanted to be put to sleep.
NOW RANDY SHOULD FIGHT HIM IN A BOXING BOUT!

Dana White/UFC didn't dream up this horrible fight, Toney hounded White to let him fight, following him around the country to press conferences.Autobarn wrote:must be embarrassing for toney who has never been stopped as a boxer to have tapped out i.e given up.

Toney wanted this opportunity, he was given it and he disgraced himself by showing up in such woeful condition and without having at least versed himself in the basics of grappling and submission defence.
It was like watching a car crash - Toney whored himself and his reputation out for ca$h last night...
Toney was cut from the ufc immediately following that debacle

Re: Spoiler**** James Toney last night
toney did it purely for the money.
none of the big guns at heavyweight are interested anymore cos he's lost his meaningful fights at heavyweight.
he holds the iba title and seems to think he's some kind of legit champion.
i remember he once derided eubank's wbo title.
how times change.
he's still tough and wily enough to get by at boxing for a bit longer.

still they must have known it would end up being garbage. at least it might help to put off future fights of this ilk.TerribleTerry wrote:Dana White/UFC didn't dream up this horrible fight, Toney hounded White to let him fight, following him around the country to press conferences.Autobarn wrote:must be embarrassing for toney who has never been stopped as a boxer to have tapped out i.e given up.

This fight just proved that Courture is a better wrestler then Toney
I’m actually ashamed to say I gave it a watch even with full knowledge what was going to happen, its like a kid at Christmas who knows deep down all they’re getting is a pair of socks but convincing themselves its really a Playstation 3 or i Pad
Toney was a sitting duck from the start and his feet were like cement blocks and his boxing style was the worst possible one that was going to transfer to mma in the same way Randy's style would be terrible to transfer to boxing.
Randy did what was best for him to win, not what was best to make an exciting fight so i take nothing away from him and no sour grapes should be spoken about him.
The person to blame apart from Toney is obviously Dana White for exploiting a washed up possibly brain damaged fat boxer who couldn't get licenced in most states of America and using him to make some type of statement that mma is better then boxing in terms of combat....actually it did the opposite for me.
It took a former Olympic level wrestler over 3 minutes to choke out a complete novice on the ground wheras it took Ray mercer a split second to knockout Tim Slyvia with his hands..I know which one I’d rather use the next time I get into a street fight(which is almost never nowadays)
Back to White....this filthy fuker saying things like 'We are going to make an example of James Toney' just shows he's a complete turd and then matching him against the worst style match-up possible in his first contest when it was sure to go to the ground in seconds.
If he really cared about his fans, he should have matched Toney against someone at who least was going to keep it standing up...like a Liddell or Slyvia type mma guy who can have kicks to compensate their disadvantage against a former world champion boxer....it would have been thrilling to have seen that but instead we got a Boxer who didnt even get a chance to throw a punch and that is the sad part as it should have been an honour for the fans to see what a 3 weight division former champion boxer could have done in the octagon with 4 oz gloves....the ufc fans were SCREWED last night and they are too stupid to realise it!

Excellent point re: Liddell etc.
I still maintain James raped the UFC last night by earning up to 5 times what Matt Hughes and Anderson Silva each earned in UFC 117.

Re: Spoiler**** James Toney last night
in the long run the ufc if it sold enough ppvs to cover toney pay plus if any boxing fan starts watching the ufc because of last night its only increasing their audiencerobpalmer135 wrote:James Toney the highed paid fighter in UFC History.....who is the real winner.
last night proved if a top boxer fights in mma against top mma guys there is only going to be one winner same if a top ufc fighter fought a top boxer, they should stick to their own sports

Your missing the point. The point is UFC people think they are so much more diverse and multi talented multi dimensional athletes than boxers.
Well if that is the point why didnt they just test their hands or their striking against a boxer?
I mean why not make it a level playing field?
Toney is a disgrace a fat washed up old bum who should be banned from any HOF given how he has given boxing another black eye with his complicity in this charade by the UFC to show how it is superior to boxing.
This wasnt the first time a world champion heavyweight boxer had fought in MMA as Joe Rogan kept lying last night, no doubt at Dana "i was once a boxer really i was" white's insistence. The first time a HW world champion boxer fought a HW MMA fighter was when Ray Mercer kayoed Tim Sylvia in 9 seconds........thats the only stat that matters.
Re: Spoiler**** James Toney last night
Went exactly as I thought it would, probably the same as the majority felt it would go too.
Toney's basically sold Dana White the right to say 'boxers can't compete with MMA fighters, point proven...' for a cool 700k. Toney might be past it, but he still qualifies as the best boxer to have stepped into an MMA ring/cage.
Hopefully he had taxes that desperately needed to be paid, or someone in his life needed a costly operation because he's basically sold out the sport of boxing for a chunk of cash. F*ck him.

Re: Spoiler**** James Toney last night
Two totally different sports yet we have the same comments Y...A...W...N.
Yep in a boxing ring under boxing rules a competent boxer will destroy an MMA fighter, in an MMA ring if the fight goes to the floor the boxer is fucked.
Toney took the fight knowing it was going to be full MMA rules, which involves grappling, he lost, live with it.
Some of the comments remind me of a friend of mine who used to be into his boxing, he then fancied himself in a muay thai fight with full muay thai rules and I'm not kidding he bitched, yes BITCHED about fair fighting after he recovered from being knocked out cold by an elbow strike.
