my initial thought on seeing this line up, was a bad night for burns (although i hoped not as i'll be there cheering him on).
looking at how highly ranked martinez is both on here and in the ring mag ratings, as well as what i've heard about him i didn't give burns too great a chance. looking at the bookies prediction also has martinez as low as 2/9 with ricky up as high as 3/1.

but judging by the only time i've actually watched martinez fight against nicky cook, i wouldn't say the lad was unbeatable. in fact nicky cook looked to have him in a spot of bother at the end of round 2 and i was a little dissapointed he never went on to win that one.

i don't know if i'd say ricky was better than cook, but i don't think i'll be writing the lad off. in fact at 3/1 fighting at home i may be tempted to have a little flutter (just a little one though)

I have to guess martinez' harder hitting will take its toll on Burns sooner or later

i don't think the Cook fight is that good as a yardstick here, as I don't think Burns will get involved with Martinez and certainly not early on

i think Burns is maybe a bit slicker than Martinez and can have some success jabbing and moving but Martinez should get to him sooner or later. i think it will be close on the cards when it ends around rp 9 or 10 IMO

Martinez by ko/tko for me. I just think he is in a different league to Burns and will use the fact that he is fighting away from home as an extra source of motivation.

Martinez to score a mid rounds stoppage, he hits prettyu hard and that will take it's tole on Burns and slowly break his spirit.

mid-late stoppage for Martinez. Burns doesn't hit hard enough to discourage or hurt Martinez.

I read he's been staying away from forums because no-one's given him a chance.

i think you've got to be a mad man to read these forums if your a boxer. forum are savage places. i use a football forum (hearts fan) and if some of the players read them after a defeat some would feel suicidal at the abuse they get for misplacing a pass.

these places can do nothing for a boxers confidence.

anyway, davie gave him a chance (not a big one though) but he'll know he goes into this as underdog. he'll be under no illusions, but no matter what folk say, he'll believe he can win it.

the cook fight might not be the best comparison, maybe martinez had an off night but it's the only time i remember seeing him fight, so it's my only point of reference. but it shows ricky the guy can be hurt and if nicky cook had been a bit more effective pouncing on him could have beat him.

Davie's just gutted he never found a bookies before he watched "arguably" the finest brittish performance since another ricky smashed costya someone or other a couple years back?
