Andy Green Vs Otto Merlin

Post by Sweet P »

Andy Green is fighting Otto on the Mundine-Waters undercard. Andy is a big punching LtHeavy and im predicting he will be one to watch in the Future. He is currently training with Billy Hussien and hopefully he will impress.

Good to see that Andy has two fights scheduled. Let's hope he wins both handily and moves on to some higher caliber opposition. I believe his year of inactivity was due to a shoulder re-construction?

I've seen Andy Green fight live as an amateur and as a pro. I was not aware he was now training under Billy Hussein, but it is good to see him going interstate. I would like to see him against better opposition, but considering the layoff and the surgery, this is probably a smart move.

I used to train at the same gym as Andy and have spoken to him a few times. I am 6'1 and I'd say he is a smidge shorter than me, probably 6'0, though much heavier built (I would be a welterweight/light welterweight). As an amateur I always saw him fighting at 81kg, and his weight as a pro has ranged from 176.5lb (80.2kg) to 184lb (83.6kg), making him a small cruiserweight or big light heavyweight (LHW limit is 175lb or 79.5kg). Considering he is only 26, I think he may campaign at LHW at first, but will likely the switch to full cruiserweight at some point in time.

Andy Green has been boxing for well over a decade. At age 15 he was fighting as an adult in the 75kg division and knocking grown men out. He is naturally very strong, very powerful and he has very good handspeed. He is great to watch, a very fluid, natural combination puncher with knockout power in both hands. I don't think it would be unreasonable to say he is more naturally gifted than Danny Green.

I have seen Andy lose once, which was as an amateur against a pressure fighter who hurt him badly to the body and narrowly outpointed him. Speaking to other boxers at the club, they hinted that Andy's biggest weakness is is upstairs, namely, being able to adjust his game-plan and stay mentally focused. One cruiserweight mentioned to me: "If I had Andy's power and handspeed, no one in Australia could touch me". All this was said before Andy turned pro, so this could be something he has since addressed and sorted out.

Andrew Green TKO1 Otto Merlin on the Mundine-Waters undercard. Did anyone here see it?

Notice A.Green now has first round KO wins in 4 of his 5 fights.

Andy dropped Otto with a some hard Body shots. The Ref stopped the fight after Merlin went down for the second time.

Not exactly the same topic, but has anyone noticed that Andy Green is scheduled to face William Hadlow after his next fight?

I think this is a shocking matchup as, assuming shoulder is now ok, Green is not just far superior, but also significantly larger and more powerful than Hadlow. Hadlow was recently knocked out by Bryant who is a natural LMW, he should not be in the ring with a powerful LHW.
