Joe Teiken, The First World Class Fighter From Korea?

Post by Chuck1052 »

Joe Teiken (prounced "Tea Kin") was a capable bantamweight
who may have been the first world-class fighter from Korea.
Yes, he lost alot of bouts in the United States, but a number
of losses were in bouts that were very close. Moreover,
he was facing many top fighters such as Speedy Dado,
Young Tommy, Little Pancho, Lew Farber, and Small
Montana in California, let alone a number of top fighters in
the East.

It appears that Teiken became "shop worn" some time in 1935.
About the same time, he went back to Japan, where he tried
to continue his boxing career, but with very little success.
