KID HERMAN

Post by enrique »

I HAVE LOCATED A KID HERMAN BOUT IN HAVANA -APRIL 27, 1917. HERMAN FOUGHT CHANG -OR CHAU- ARANGUREN, BUT I DO NOT HAVE THE RESULT. IF ANYONE CAN LOCATE RESULT LET ME KNOW.

I OBTAINED INFO FROM A CUBAN NEWS CLIPPING OF THE TWENTIES WHERE IT STATES THAT LALO DOMINGUEZ -CUBA'S FIRST BIG LOCAL HERO- TURNED PRO WITH A KO OVER FRANKIE TORRES IN THE UNDERCARD OF ARANGUREN AND HERMAN. ARANGUREN WAS A PIONEER IN CUBAN BOXING, HAVING TURNED PRO AS A FEATHER IN 1912.

No, I don't think so....Chan Araguren fought 1912-1920 and I have no evidence he left Cuba....the article states that dominguez KOéd Torres in the undercard of Herman-Aranguren April 27, 1917 in Havana...but on the other hand, how many Kid Hermans are there? Hank Kaplan thinks there were three or four....

Well -- there were at least 2 since I have pete "kid" herman nd 10 "pekin" kid herman at Peoria April 27, 1917.

Clearly, "Pekin" Kid Herman is not his real name.

Here is the report from the ap, April 28, 1917

"HERMAN BOYS BATTLE

Peoria, Ills., April 27. -- Pete Herman, claimant of the World's bantamweight championship, had a shade over "Kid" Herman, of Pekin, in a 10 round bout here tonight, according to the opinion of the ringside experts. The champion easily took honors in the first five rounds. "Kid" Herman staged a comeback in the sixth, but the champion closed up and contented himself with battling even for the remainder of the bout."

At least these 2 Hermans were not in Cuba that day.
