Does anyone think Harrison will beat Haye?
Re: Does anyone think Harrison will beat Haye?
I think people are seriously overating Harrison's power based on his prizefighter success (where he fought the chinny Belshaw and an exhausted Cuiserweight in Barratt) and that one punch, out of the blue shot against a tiring Michael Sprott.
Now all of the sudden he is a phenomenal KO machine.
It was clear even back as far as a his 2nd fight that for a big lad, he doesn't punch super hard.
Sam Sexton isn't a big puncher, but he had Rogan in alot more problems than Audley did. Julius Francis is a survivor, but he also goes down when he faces a big puncher - Harrison didn't budge him, George Arias, DANNY WILLIAMS in fight one (his chin was gone even at that stage IMO) have all shown vulnerabilities in the past.
It took Harrison nine rounds to wear out Bonin (controvesially), Michael Sprott has also shown vulnerabilities. No one can dispute that Harrison is a powder puff puncher, with his frame he can and with 20KO in 27 wins can obviously punch a bit - but if this was a heavyweight with an average chin he was facing - I don't think he would even have this punchers chance.
He does against Haye, but lets not go overboard about his power.

Its not irrelevant. 38 is old in boxing years. The old saying you can't teach an old dog new tricks seems apt in Harrisons case.Jeff Thomas wrote:38? Thats irrelevant. People do great things beyond 30 you know.WelshDevil wrote: But when has he done that and against who? He's 38 now.

For a heavy 38 is no big deal.

well according to the WBA ladder of champions Witherspoon was.funso banjo baby wrote:mimmy123 wrote:You know I have an aweful feeling that Hudley Harrison will knock out David Haye and become world heavyweight champion. Ive got a feeling that, if the fight comes off this year it could pan out like the Sprott fight, and Harrison could knock out Haye late on. I get the feeling that Harrison will train for this fight knowing it is actually his last chance and a loss would finally end his career, plus a bit of added embarrasment if he is stopped with ease. I think Haye could take this fight as a warm up to bigger opposition but be lazy in training and under estimate Harrison.
I'm proberly dreaming and really hope I do so because to be honest Harrison as world heavyweight champion sounds kind of funny.
Its like putting Harrison in a list of WBA champions and it makes the list sort of weird that he is actually stnding up there with:
Sonny Liston
Cassius Clay
Joe Frazier
George Foreman
Tim Witherspoon
Mike Tyson
James Douglas
Evander Holyfield
Riddock Bowe
and
Audley Harrison
By the way are tickets on sale yet please.
haye is NOT world champion.
neither was Tim Witherspoon

If Sprott can stop Harrison then Haye certainly can. I have nothing against Harrison and if he were fighting any other heavyweight for a title I would want him to win. The trouble is that Haye is by far the best fighter that Harrison has ever faced in the professionals. There is no way that Haye will come in under-prepared as he will not want to blow a big payday against one of the Klitschkos. Haye also has genuine power which I cannot see Harrison living with.

He didn't deserve his chance. Did Martinez and Cook before him genuinely deserve their opportunities?oliverfennell wrote:Like Ricky Burns?yiddo14 wrote:One of my biggest gripes with this sport is fighters who land title shots when they clearly don't deserve the chance.
Audley isn't the first case of a fighter landing a world title shot when he clearly doesn't deserve it, and he won't be the last but it doesn't make the situation any better.
One could even argue there is at least one, maybe two current British heavyweights that deserve a shot more than Audley in Sexton and Chisora! Thats not even taking into account plenty of other heavyweights from around the world that would also be more deserving.
Still, it looks like its done now so good luck to Audley, he is certainly going to need it! Haye on the other hand? Well, for someone who wants to fight the best asap and build himself a legacy...laughable choice of opponent. Monte Barrett would probably beat Audley!

I think some people view Audley with such derision that they can not see past the obvious skills and talent. A one handed fighter struggles everytime! Haye ( one handed) Vs Sprott may well be stopped!oliverfennell wrote:If he only had the use of one arm, quite probably.DIRT SUGAR wrote:Would Haye have two life and death fights with Michael Sprott?

Haye has neglected his speed in favour of bulking up and new movement/back foot boxing.
Audley has a decent chance in this fight, David is fragile at heavy, and more so than Audley.

Neglected speed??? are you mental. Re: Does anyone think Harrison will beat Haye?
Haye's chin may let him down but it's pretty safe to say that against Audley, Haye's stamina will not be questioned!
Audley is hardly known for his workrate

Re: Does anyone think Harrison will beat Haye?
I can only imagine how scared Audley would look. Fight would be like a chase scene from Benny Hill, with Audley starring as Benny!

I can't believe people are getting wrapped up in the hype machine thinking Audley has any chance.
If this goes beyond 3 rounds its a bad performance by Haye.
Audley is not even close to Haye's class.

Re: Does anyone think Harrison will beat Haye?
People are being very niave if they think Harrison has no chance, of course he does. Haye is the obvious favourite, but Harrison COULD cause an upset. A few posters are being totally biased stating he won't last a round. I'll put drink on him lasting at least that. And if he wins they'll be a lot of egg on peoples faces. IF he wins I'm positive people will just slag Haye off, not congratulate Harrison.
Re: Does anyone think Harrison will beat Haye?
it really is a case of who hit's who first, haye is by far more chinnier but dig's alot harder & faster.haye has allway's done well v tall men, but he struggles with the southpaw stance.
Re: Does anyone think Harrison will beat Haye?
cor yeah :!: especially v a 17st plus :!:
Re: Does anyone think Harrison will beat Haye?
I'll be putting money on Haye winning in Rounds 1,2 or 3. I agree with poster above, if it goes any further I think it's a bad performance from Haye.
Once Haye launches a fast powerful 1,2 Harrison will shit himself. The only chance I give Harrison is if Haye turns up disregarding any threat and is sloppy, but that won't happen cos Haye is a very smart fighter

Re: Does anyone think Harrison will beat Haye?
I have to admit that Harrison has disappointed enough times to make predictions of an easy win for Haye fair enough, but what bugs me is that people carry their dislike of him so far as to completely ignore the circumstances of Sprott 2. All we ever hear is "he struggled against Sprott", "he was losing on points against Sprott", while choosing to ignore the plainest of evidence as to WHY he was in that position in that fight. Anybody else (e.g. Danny Williams) winning in such a fashion is cause for celebration and congratulations for a massive display of heart, but Audley? It's more a case of "let's not mention it, eh?"The Specialist wrote:I think some people view Audley with such derision that they can not see past the obvious skills and talent. Re: Does anyone think Harrison will beat Haye?
I think the reason for this is that two fold Oliver.
1) Unlike Williams vs Potter (which you are alluding too) it happened in the final round, at around the final minute mark - and Sprott changed tactics. Williams vs Potter happened with loads of time left in the fight. A big case can be made for Sprott throwing that fight.
2) Unlike Williams vs Potter - the nature/seriousness of Harrison's injury still hasn't really been that clarified - from what I've read its a shoulder injury that required surgery - obviously it's serious (nobody can argue any differently) but its still vague. If memory serves me, wasn't the finishing blow from the hand Audley coudn't throw from.
I've seen fighters fight and win with a torn rotator cuff, only Dean Francis and Danny have I seen win with a dislocated shoulder. It must be so much harder to throw a power shot with that kind of injury, due to the balance issues of having an arm tangling like that.
