1) Throwing the fight?? Are you for real?? Yes, getting your head knocked into the seventh row and being laid out unconscious for a worrying amount of minutes is obviously the preferable route for anyone taking part in a fix. Not to mention going on the attack, hard, and looking on the verge of winning by stoppage yourself only seconds earlier. Yes indeed, one way to ensure the fix is in is by trying your damndest to win it yourself. Oh, and not to mention waiting until the final round before letting it all happen, so as to allow the maximum amount of time for something to cock up the plan. Thank god for all concerned that Sprott did manage to follow the script.stujones wrote:I think the reason for this is that two fold Oliver.
1) Unlike Williams vs Potter (which you are alluding too) it happened in the final round, at around the final minute mark - and Sprott changed tactics. Williams vs Potter happened with loads of time left in the fight. A big case can be made for Sprott throwing that fight.
2) Unlike Williams vs Potter - the nature/seriousness of Harrison's injury still hasn't really been that clarified - from what I've read its a shoulder injury that required surgery - obviously it's serious (nobody can argue any differently) but its still vague. If memory serves me, wasn't the finishing blow from the hand Audley coudn't throw from.
I've seen fighters fight and win with a torn rotator cuff, only Dean Francis and Danny have I seen win with a dislocated shoulder. It must be so much harder to throw a power shot with that kind of injury, due to the balance issues of having an arm tangling like that.
2) You're right we don't know the seriousness of the injury but whatever the long-term prognosis, on the night the effects were the same - both boxers only had one good arm. Thus achieving victory on the night is just as meritous and the after-effects have no bearing on that. And if you want to factor in the seriousness of the respective injuries, Danny was never again bothered by his. Finally, the finishing blow was NOT from the injured arm. He was relegated to using his left, which as a southpaw is not his leading hand, making things even more difficult,
