Pascal to end the extrordinary career of Bernard Hopkins?
The date set is December 18th in Montreal, Canada and once again Bernard Hopkins will be an underdog when he faces Jean Pascal the Light-Heavyweight champion of the world. Many times Hopkins has proven the nay sayers wrong by winning. He must have been written off as a possible future world champion when he lost his first ever professional fight to Clinton Mitchell. He then went onto upset the odds again by winning the IBF Middleweight title and defending his Middleweight crown over 20 times , along the way beating the likes of Felix Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya and Glen Johnson. However in 2005 the Excutioner was dethroned by Jermain Taylor and was written off again. However Hopkins made the move up to Light-Heavyweight to wrestle the title away from Antonio Tarver. After making a defence agaisnt Winky Wright , Hopkins sqaured off agasint Joe Calzaghe and lost on a split decsion. Most thought Hopkins had come to the end of the road when he signed the fight to fight Kelly Pavlik who was unbeaten in 34-0-0 fight with 30 knockouts, many belived Pavlik would become the first man to stop B-Hop and put an end to a glittering career. However Hopkins put on a masterclass and domiated Pavlik through pretty much the entire fight. However now at 45 and in his last fight did not look his best agaisnt a gun shy Roy Jones Jr, perhaps now Hopkins is at the end of the road ? Jean Pascal who has only lost once is coming into the fight from a career best win agasint Chad Dawson and many believe this may be the end fot Bernard. However people in this sport right now should realise one thing , never ever truely write Hopkins off in a Boxing. Hopkins has made a career out of proving people wrong , however if this is Hopkins last outing to the ring , this must be the way he want it too be , challenging himself to the limit. Whatever the outcome thanks for everything Hopkins, your the best example of never giving up!

Im tipping Hopkins to defeat Pascal and by stoppage too!!

I think this is one fight too far for Hopkins. :(
Pascal, I imagine, will be too young and energetic for the older man.
Hopkins has obviously seen big chinks in Pascals armour ... no doubt sees himself timing a nice big right hand onto the oncoming Pascal. This time I think father time catches up with Bernard :(

Hopkins will be too cute
Re: Pascal to end the extrordinary career of Bernard Hopkins?
Hopkins is a master and knows just too much, However I feel Dawson would have outpointed him as styles most certainly do make fights..
Re: Pascal to end the extrordinary career of Bernard Hopkins?
I'll be really surprised if he wins by KO or TKO. Hopkins hasn't managed to do that since fighting the smaller Oscar De La Hoya in 2004! If Hopkins is still OK, I think he'll win on points. At his age, though, every fight against a top, young boxer is a risky one indeed.Bomber 1 wrote:Im tipping Hopkins to defeat Pascal and by stoppage too!!

The fight against Pascal will be his swansong I feel..
Re: Pascal to end the extrordinary career of Bernard Hopkins?
If the B-Hop that fought Kelly Pavlik and Calzaghe turns up, I'd have him to to outpoint Pascal.
If the B-Hop that fought RJJ turns up, I'd take Pascal.
Pascal always starts to gas after about 6 or 7 rounds. So, if Bernard has anything left in the tank, I can really see him taking advantage of that.

Can`t see him knocking Pascal out, his chin is pretty solid.
He might know enough to win on points though. Hopkins is so boring to watch. Unless you REALLY appreciate defensive skills, then it`s difficult to take much from his fights.

If Hopkins wins this one it will be for me one of his best victories.
To do it he will have to do his normal though and that is to attempt to stink the place out by boxing and moving the whole time!!!
Pascal will attempt to drag Hopkins into the trenches!!!

hopefully pascal fights with speed and energy, keeps hopkins in his shell and gunshy and hammers the old spoiler into defeat.
if pascal batters him, or wins an ugly foulfest, hopefully either way hopkins won't be back as he is atrocious viewing. even in his heyday he had to resort to fouling, on routine challengers of all ppl. a mark, i feel, against his fearsome reign as middleweight champ and his alleged all-time greatness.
you'd think for the sake of viewing pleasure that HBO would try to get pascal in there with another crowd pleasing slugger ala diaconu, rather than a hug and mug artist. cloud or shumenov would have been better.
but if pascal can get rid of hopkins then i'm ok with that. sick of BH's style.

I honestly think Hopkins has to make this a horribly boring fight - its the only way he wins!!!
Re: Pascal to end the extrordinary career of Bernard Hopkins?
only way he ever did fight, unless he's taking on a welterweight or a light middle.

Pascal's desire to get to Hopkins could leave the very openings "Old Man Hopkins" needs to jab his way to a points victory.Autobarn wrote:only way he ever did fight, unless he's taking on a welterweight or a light middle.

jab?
or grab?
definitely pascal makes mistakes but i just hope his youth and aggression will be enough to get the job done.
i hope pascal does well. what a run, exciting loss to froch, 1 punch KO of hard headed import, 2 thrilling wins over diaconu, beating down old spoiler branco (a light heavy malignaggi, light hitter, all legs) and doing enough to beat dawson.
this guy doesn't twat about. always thought he'd be one to watch since the beating he gave kingsley ikeke. he had some bad years when he fought carelessly in america, killing interest in a miranda match, but he's come very far since then.

I really hope Pascal retires Hopkins, and I think he will if he fights like Taylor did in their second fight. He needs to use his speed and skills, and not let Hopkins get into his head. To be honest, I never want to see Hopkins fight again, and I haven't wanted to for a long time.
Re: Pascal to end the extrordinary career of Bernard Hopkins?
Absolutely convinced that Old Nard will beat Pascal on points. It won't be exciting but he'll have a plan without a doubt. Incredible man.

tony take me to your dealer
did you see hopkins last 2 performances???
he's done remarkable to keep it going for aslong as he has done. the man wont even sprinkle salt in a dish :!:
Re: Pascal to end the extrordinary career of Bernard Hopkins?
Pascal is a big athletic and quirky fighter and it took the world class skills, workrate and chin of Carl Froch to beat him barely and even that was very very close could have gone to Pascal.......old man Hopkins can set a terrific pace a lot of you forget. He has one of the greatest engines this sport has seen since Holyfields ticker started to go circa 1994. So I dont see Pascal out energising him even now unless Hopkins has finally fucked father time and caught AEDS (Agerelated energy deficiency syndrome).
Look at how Hopkins came back at Taylor in the 12th, look at what he did to Tito and Pavlik......it took a Joe Calzaghe engine to be the first man to have him looking for a breather in a fight. Whether Pascal can do that is debatable. He caught Dawson who is seemingly dead with legal, managerial and financial problems or who seemingly became shot overnight.
Wins over a Silvio Branco dont mean much to me.
If Pascal can beat Hopkins and prove the Dawson win was more good Pascal and not bad Chad than he will be number 1 at LH and will made a follower of me.
