Totally blown out of proportion in my opinion, yea it probably wasn't the smartest comment in the world but just because someone makes an off the cuff comment like that doesn't mean they are actually condoning it. Certain groups of people just love to jump all over situations like this when there is really nothing in it.

haye has done good things for british boxing, but he is getting quite offensive, pisstaking vs valuev re what could be seen as his disability and then the gang rape comment re audley. he's also seemingly got a rep as a promoter who just takes care of himself, when his stable fell apart post setanta. he's not always going to be mr big bollox, and if things don't go as planned i doubt he'll be retired by 31 and it's not great to make enemies.

also, convincing most of the boxing world that he's terrified of fighting the klitschko brothers. he's not mastered the PR game yet, has he?

but he can get away with it as he has a heavyweight title and features in novelty fights which sell well (david vs goliath, and of course audley). more and more you hear from haye, the more he's coming across as a british mundine.

while he's taking these novelty fights, taking long layoffs and failing to negotiate the BIG fights, don't be surprised if an adamek or boytsov creeps up the rankings, busts his pretty boy face up and cracks his hardly cast iron chin.

Of all the people in the world with disabilities, I dont think you can describe a former World Heavyweight Champion as being disabled. He might have a condition of some sort, like Briggs and his asthma, but he's not disabled is he?

yet gigantism is not a comfortable condition for its sufferers, many ppl are crippled by it, alienated socially and die at a young age (i.e. the guy who starred in DEVIL'S REJECTS by rob zombie). not very nice to call someone a freak and say his head is getting bigger, is it? in fact it's exceptionall nasty. haye certainly won't be having a career in diplomacy after this. of course, valuev is an athlete, who carries big size and strength advantages into fights. disclaimer: yes haye sells PPVs, whereas most fighters don't sell any, so it's ultimately not going to affect his career - the ppl he puts off will be balanced out, or exceeded, by the ppl who get hooked by the hype.

People slag off Haye now he has reached the top - can we all remember what Audley was like after the Olympics??

Could you possibly imagine what he would be like if he did beat Haye - f*cking hell it could possibly have me going into a boxing fans retirement once and for all because I truly could not stand the gloating!!!

another thing about haye - talks big and brash, gets the audience, then doesn't deliver.

anything less than an IRREVERSIBLE style rape/beating and the masses will feel let down.

In one fight he did not deliver but did what had to be done to win a title.

You feel let down by Haye fights? You feel he does not deliver? Are you nuts? They are crash, bang, wallop on a grand scale with knockdowns galore in most of them

Haye looks to be under pressure to me and if you think about it he probably is.

The world and his wife are telling him its a crap fight and a formality, his bank manager is telling him different with the huge sums Haye will reap from this.

Should he win but look dreadful it does him no good at all

Should he win and look good, it will be a case of everyone saying so he bloody should it was only Audley.

Should he lose its a rematch with Audley before he can move on anywhere.

All the pressure on Haye and he seems to be heaping it on himself with some of the crap he has spouted.

yes he has offensive skills and can drop guys. often multiple times. even at heavyweight. good for him. i appreciate him as a fighter, ever since his EBU cruiserweight days.

i just don't think he's delivering on the hype, i don't think he's fighting often enough, we're not seeing the best of his abilities, he's getting injuries in fights and in sparring that's affecting his game.

he's got the belt, he's cashing it in, and that's good business and good for him. but, fighting someone so far beneath him, we don't know if some kind of farce is going to happen (like danny green vs an overweight and inactive paul briggs, for instance), we don't know if he's going to smash audley or fight down to him in a dismal, dull fight. we don't know what the event is going to bring, it will help haye as a promoter but it will not in any way improve david haye's standing as a heavyweight boxer.

I think Hayes behavoir towards Audley might turn some fans away from him. Trash talking is one thing, but he's going to far IMO and needs to do a re-think.

To be honest, if he keeps it up like this right until the first bell, i might actually find myself cheering for Audley...... maybe

Terry - I'm not having a pop at him for the comment which was, indeed, off the cuff (one hopes) and your understanding of how journalism works is spot on. But when given the opportunity to apologise for offending people (presumably, victims of said act, etc) NOT doing so just makes him look like a c*nt.

He did make a decent attempt to explain what he meant (the one-sided nature of the future fight in his eyes) but for some crazy reason refused to apologise for offending people. That was just daft to me - it wouldn't have been any sort of climbdown.

If that's how he wants to come across, fine. Then again, obviously he doesn't to some.

Ah but with the Sky+ box you can rewind live tv. It's sad but I sometimes wonder how I managed without it!

is haye trying to say that he needs someone to hold audley down while he "attacks" him?

probably not, so it's questionable how articalated david really is.

My thoughts exactly. It was the kind of thoughtless comment we all make, and he's perfectly right to explain himself, but all ne needed to do was preface the explanation with "I'm sorry if I offended anyone, that wasn't my intention."

There are a lot of people on this earth who, while basically decent, live in a little 'Me' bubble. They don't intend to upset, offend or fornicate over people, but blithely go about their business with no thought as to how their words and actions might affect other people, or seemingly any idea that they share the world with other people. Does my fu<king head in.

And before all the Dail Heil readers start banging on about "Political Correctness Gone Mad!" (and how it lowers their house prices and give you cancer) that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying a little thought goes along way. Anyone who disagrees with that is a c*nt.
