Well, according to boxrec, he got stopped in two rounds by Mickey Coveney, a stocky southpaw from the Smoke who can be dangerous and has been in with some excellent men. I didn't see the fight so I cannot tell you whether Ward lost on cuts, etc, but Martin's unbeaten record is gone.

It was a horrible KO but there was also a big on the night weight difference which Ward's team accepted after he missed the previous day's weigh-in

Ward had been sparring with Jason Booth in the run up to both of their fights.

According to Jason, Ward gave him a lot of trouble.

Ward came in at 130lb and his opponent 142lb.. At this weight class that's a huge difference. What was he thinking taking the fight?

I know weight aint everything but almost a stone difference is too much at this level.

If Ward had weighed in the day before like Coveney there wouldn't have been such a discrepancy. It meant he had to be 9-3 or 9-4 on the day, while Coveney could eat what he wanted from friday afternoon
